So you wanna know what each Decoy contributor is jamming this week? Take a long gander at this week's list and feel free to add what you guys are spinning too.

Rick Is Learning How To Proofread Band Names By Studying The Spelling Of: Junius - Blood Is Bright

Website: ( http://www.juniusmusic.com/) :: Listen: ( http://www.myspace.com/junius)

It’s not all that often that I listen to shoegazer-inspired rock. When I do, know that it takes a special band to get me to listen. Junius’ Blood is Bright is definitely a special release. I mistakenly stumbled upon them when searching on the Internet for Jairus and I am so glad I did. When listening to this EP, I get a definite Depeche Mode meets Deftones meets Starflyer 59 vibe, which is a good vibe to give off. The song that really does it for me is “A Word Could Kill Her.” By far their most aggressive song (it even includes some screaming and crunchy guitars toward the end), it is also their most interesting because of all the ground it covers. Definitely think about giving this band a look.

Jared Probably Hates In Flames Because He's Heard: Children of Bodom - Tokyo Warhearts

http://www.decoymusic.com/images/ListeningStation/childrenofbodom.jpg

Website: ( http://www.childrenofbodom.com/) :: Listen: ( http://www.myspace.com/childrenofbodom)

While Limp Bizkit and Korn were tearing up the world, Children of Bodom weren’t far behind. They’ve received a bit more acclaim now that metal has become somewhat more popular in the headbanging masses, but they’re far from a household name. Recorded over two days in July of 1999, Tokyo Warhearts is CoB’s live album. They cover material from Follow the Reaper, Something Wild, and Hatebreeder.

For those who may not be familiar with Bodom, they play black or death metal with heavy use of keyboards. Their songs are very elaborate and contain endless guitar and keyboard solos. This style of music lends itself to huge productions and flamboyant stage shows. Having recently witnessed the Trans-Siberian Orchestra come through town, I can only imagine what the same kind of show would look like with CoB on stage instead. They sound great in the studio and on disc, but they truly do excel live. If you’re a fan of this type of melodic or symphonic metal, check out Tokyo Warhearts. For fans of this band, it really is a treat.

Ben Is Growing Ever More Self-Absorbed By Selecting: Solo Love Sessions - Stroke It to the West: Live at Sundance

http://www.decoymusic.com/images/ListeningStation/sololovesessions.jpg

Website: (http://www.purevolume.com/sololovesessions) :: Listen: (http://www.myspace.com/sololovesessions)

First and foremost, to clear the air, this album does not exist. It was never recorded. The band is only the most bare bones a band could ever be (an idea with shitty vocal demos). But damn if this imaginary band isn't a touring machine. Or at least, it was this past week, as Solo Love Sessions (AKA me) hit the bars of Sacramento and did some pretty awesome karaoke. Crowds (or lingering patrons who really wish they could get over their crippling alcohol addictions so they wouldn't be forced to listen to this shit) thrilled to almost-exact renditions of Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline" and "I Could Have Danced All Night," from the musical My Fair Lady, as well as a fine duet on "Summer Nights" from Grease. Unfortunately, crowds also had to suffer through terrible renditions of The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's "Fishin' in the Dark," which, admittedly, I fucked up on purpose, and a sore-throated, choked version of "Wonderboy." To close out the night, Solo Love Sessions, with special guest Drunk-Ass Dude Named Casey, performed a fairly decent version of "Beat It." Later that night, he did. Not really. He was too tired to even contemplate turning the band name into reality.

Kamran Is A Little Ghetto Boy Living In The Ghetto Streets And His Harrowing Tale Of Bravery and Misfortune Can Be Heard On: Dr. Dre - The Chronic

http://www.decoymusic.com/images/ListeningStation/drdre.jpg

Website: (http://www.drdre.com/) :: Listen: ( http://www.drdre.com/)

While there’ve been a string of gangster rap records appearing on fellow Decoy staff picks, none have acknowledged the best and original gangster rap record: Dr Dre’s The Chronic; and although Ben Rice will try to take credit for the recent rash of rap records here at Decoy, I should point my thanks towards Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Moving on to The Chronic… After N.W.A.’s disbandment, Dr. Dre went on to form Death Row Records and release his solo debut The Chronic. Along with creating a new form of rap he called G-Funk, Dr. Dre introduced the world to Snoop Doggy Dog, who is featured throughout the entire album. Love or loathe rap, there’s no denying that The Chronic not only changed rap music forever, it changed music forever.

Johnny Isn't Listening To A Complete Album, A Clear Violation Of The Point Of This Particular Feature, But He Is Enjoying The Hell Out of MySpace Tracks By A Band Called: Jonezetta

http://www.decoymusic.com/images/ListeningStation/jonezetta.jpg

Website: (http://www.jonezetta.com) :: Listen: (http://www.myspace.com/jonezetta)

Jonezetta is Tooth and Nail's latest signing and, after a few "duds" in a row, to me it seems like they got another star on their hands. This quartet blends indie rock with elements of hardcore and dance to make something really refreshing and fun. They are currently in the studio in Nashville recording their Tooth and Nail debut with Steve "Scooter" Wilson. Expect these boys to blow up.

i completely agree, but there seems to be a pretty good reason for it. the one place where everyone and anyone can sound off and no one does. and then when they do, some of them can't even get it right.

this is seriously the most aggravating part of working for this site. this should be, without a doubt, our best feature. and it's our worst.

Ben, you've hit rock bottom!

I'm hoping to get my act into gear this upcoming week and get back to writing stuff--the start of the new semester has me swamped currently.

well, to be fair, i've had a shitty fucking day and this particular section of this site is always being put off by seemingly everyone. not to mention some people consistently refuse to put down any info on their bands. sometimes, i have to fucking GUESS WHAT ALBUM THEY'RE LISTENING TO BY A BAND. and it all just came to a head today.

there are about 20 or so people who should be on this list each week, but it's always 4 or 5. and that's ridiculous.

Ben, it'll be ok. Think about it. From this day forward we'll always be able to bond over this:

Oh really, weird. I didn't even remember. Guess they're just that good that we both spun them heavily for a week!

i think Ben needs to explain his JohnnyL album image. i know the story but others do not and it wasnt just in spite or whatever Ben just had a bad day

sir mix-a-lot

i guess i can give an explanation on this. first, let me say what i did is pretty damned immature. and that i'm not much better, considering i just wrote about my karaoke escapades. however, i did a lot of karaokeing this week and i have a shitty fake band (by the way, this article only got me ONE add on myspace...and it was rick), so i decided to pimp it yet again, made up an album title, found a suitable picture of me, to make it seem at least semi-valid (it isn't). however, johnny has never bothered to send me album names with his selections, so i'm stuck trying to decipher what album he's talking about week in and week out. it's not like i'm asking for a lot of information here. band name, album name, a few sentences, some links for harder-to-find stuff, maybe a general idea where to find a picture of their album cover (i went through five pages of shit looking for one and just gave up)...

anyway, it's been driving me crazy since this article's inception, so i wrote johnny the following email about it:

can i get an album title in these things,
> considering i post cover art and
> the like along with these things? i'm tired of having to figure out which
> album you're listening to. and this week, it seems like you're just
> listening to their myspace songs. not cutting it.

to which johnny replied:

...or maybe you could not be a dick about it. they don't have an album
> out, but there's five or six songs on their website

to which i responded:

i don't want to be a dick about it, but i've let this shit slide every
week since this project's inception. the point of it is to display ALBUMS
we have been listening to. i understand that you've been listening to
their songs individually a lot and i'm not going to fault you for it, but
on this particular section, we do like to feature the artwork of the album
being listened to. if you want, i'll just say you're listening to their
old ep and then i'll try to track down the cover art for it. seriously,
the writeup's decent enough, but i don't have anything to hang it on right
now and that is pissing me off (granted, i'm pissed about pretty much
everything tonight, so this REALLY isn't sitting well with me). so yeah,
just send me the okay to say you were listening to the ep and we'll be
golden.

and never heard back.

considering this article is about ALBUMS YOU'VE BEEN LISTENING TO, it seemed like this pick was missing something. i found out they had a prior ep and tried to hunt down the album art (5 pages of searching, no results), but i needed an album art spot for above. and, frustrated with johnny and a vast majority of our staff, i decided to count heads on our contact page. then i saved johnny's picture and edited it to what you see above.

hence why you have what you have this week. whether this will result in more people participating or less is yet to be seen. i'd appreciate it if more would contribute so this wouldn't drive me insane week in and week out. this site is one of the few things keeping me sane lately and this is just not allowable.
