So you wanna know what some Decoy contributors are jamming this week? Take a short gander at this week's list and feel free to add what you guys are spinning too.

Brent Is Finally Catching Up to the Rest of Us While Exploring: Paulson - All at Once

I've been on winter break for three weeks now, visiting a friend in Texas, and this is all I've been playing on my iPod. If you haven't heard their new album yet, visit Paulson's myspace page and check out "Voids" and the dreamy "Window Frames."

Rick Is Revisiting Lesser Days While Listening To: Crossbreed - Newslavenation

http://www.decoymusic.com/images/ListeningStation/crossbreed.jpg

Website: (http://www.crossbreed.com) :: Listen: (http://www.myspace/com/crossbreed)

Back in 2001, Crossbreed released Synthetic Division, a CD that received many, many spins in my CD player. Many bands followed down the path of industrial metal that they were a part of—Spineshank, Celldweller, and Orgy, to name a few—but Crossbreed pretty much fell off the face of the earth. When I heard that they were touring again and while they were on tour were selling a new CD, I was extremely interested. In mid-December, I finally got my grubby little paws on a copy and, even though it’s not up to the level of Synthetic Division, it’s still a great release for industrial metal fans. One song in particular, “Push,” is pretty amazingly awesome and I’d recommend buying this CD for that song alone.

Ben Is Takin' It Back to the Old School Cuz He's an Old Fool Who's So Cool By Re-entering: Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu (36 Chambers)

http://www.decoymusic.com/images/ListeningStation/wutang.jpg

Website: ( http://www.wutangcorp.com/) :: Listen: ( http://www.vh1.com/artists/az/wu_tang_clan/videos.jhtml)

Usually referred to as simply 36 Chambers, the first major label Wu-Tang release is still as great today as the day it was released. Featuring a blend of progressive and lo-fi beats and sampling mastery, it's more noted for the Clan's mind-blowing lyrical sorcery and the smooth transitions between the MCs. However, the thing that makes 36 Chambers really stand out, in my mind, is the incredibly memorable choruses found throughout the disc. Nearly 13 years later, if you ever heard this album, you've referenced a chorus from this album at some point in your life. Personally, I "bring the mothafuckin' ruckus" about twice a week. Also holding up through the years is the fact that, indeed, "cash rules everything around me." Face it, you can hate this group for all the things they embody, but if you remove them from their image, they're still the best rap group in history. That and they refused to bolster their tracklisting with skits. Like a true artist, they didn't overblow their track count. If there's a skit in there, it's at the intro or outro of a track. And, on top of that, the skits are relevant. If they're meant to be serious, you take them seriously. If they're meant to be comedic, you laugh. How can you not laugh at ODB saying, "I'll fuckin sew your asshole shut and just keep feeding you! And feeding you! And feeding you?" It's not possible. Still a great record. This is how rap is supposed to sound.

Tim Is Imploring You to Reconsider the "Fact" That Silence Is Golden, Citing: Company Flow - Funcrusher Plus

http://www.decoymusic.com/images/ListeningStation/companyflow.jpg

Website: (http://www.definitivejux.net/) :: Listen: (http://www.definitivejux.net/av/el-p/player.php?id=555&filetype=song)

In 1997, a small group of rappers from Queens named Company Flow released what is arguably the most important underground release of the 1990s, Funcrusher Plus, on the fledging Rawkus label. Not only did the record kickstart the artsy era of underground hip-hop, but it also launched the careers of one of the best producers (El-Producto, aka El-P, head of Definitive Jux Records) and underrated MCs (Bigg Jus) in the process. Nearly a decade after its initital release, Funcrusher still maintains its freshness and sounds as if it was made yesterday, mostly due to the high quality productions which, at times, are so mimimalist that it requires the listener to just listen to the words (which are being spit out at a furious pace with amazingly clear dictation). El-P was a master MC back in 1997 and has managed to maintain that high quality many years into his career, and anyone who enjoyed his solo debut Fantastic Damage in 2002 but has never listened (or heard of) Company Flow definitely needs to get this album immediately.

Short list, even if it's probably the best one yet. I think I'm gonna go find my wu-tang cds and play them one more time.

Wu-tang needs to dig up ODB, tour, and put out another classic as amazing as 36 chambers. Someday.....

tim sent me that company flow album and, while it seems to start out a little slow, it gets really fucking good really fucking quickly. i give it my seal of approval. which is good, because, based on past attempts, it seems tim and i generally hold differing views of what constitutes good rap.

Mmm Crossbreed, I listened to their debut album non-spot for a month when it first came out. The EP is alright.

Like I said, not as good as their full length, but it's good to hear something new from them.
