The Frequency
Listen (http://www.myspace.com/playradioplay)
PlayRadioPlay is, if you can believe it, a solo project from a 17 year old boy straight out of Fort Worth, Texas. With the help of Stolen Transmission, this pacifist who is happy to let you know that he doesn't drink, do drugs, have sex and is a virgin just released his debut EP entitled The Frequency EP. Though Dan (PlayRadioPlay) draws a lot of influence from outfits like The Postal Service and The Secret Handshake, the proud individual does it strictly to make people happy. And his music does just that, as it provides a positive and joyous outlet for a person to sit back, listen, and enjoy Dan's captivating electronic bliss.

Gimmick
Listen (http://www.myspace.com/bringbackbarkmarket)
D. Sardy is most renowned for his work mixing and producing many prolific bands. But in the 90’s, he sang and played guitar in a band called Barkmarket. Gimmick was their crowning achievement but got lost amongst the grunge rock and radio friendly hard rock that was dominating the airwaves in 1993. This album is much more powerful and jarring then their peers at the time. The guitars are heavy and crunchy, often going into dissonant freak-outs. The rhythm section sounds tremendous throughout the entire album and displays a strong punk influence. D. Sardy’s manic vocals seem quite ahead of their time since bands like Glassjaw would utilize a similar style years later. If you are looking for an intense hard rock assault with no cheesy ballads, Gimmick will do the job.
Editor's Note: Yeaaahhh, D. Sardy! He produced Far 'n' shit.

I've been listening to this because it's awesome. You will find out what is so awesome about it when my review is posted, which will be soon. Until then, enjoy the music on their myspace, for it is excellent.

The Great Filter
Listen (http://www.myspace.com/tubring)
I'm not going to lie. I'm horrible with money. And my love of fast food, TV on DVD, and the obsession of having thousands upon thousands of CDs is the main reason for it all. Despite having almost no time to give any music an actual solid listen, I still find myself buying in bulk. I spent a couple bucks over at The End last week, then again earlier this week. Not to mention the money I paid in-store. And at Relapse's online store. And this is after I put the reigns on and didn't hit CDBaby for a few things.
Anyway, I got Tub Ring's new album and it's a complete departure for the band. Fortunately, the band has been trying to knock off the pesky shadow of a band to be named later for years now. Each album, they progress further and further away from that pigeonhole and I think The Great Filter finally sees them shed the shadow entirely, although members would say that their previous album, Zoo Hypothesis, had no influence either. Here, they've finally become what they've always meant to be: a quirky group that darts from electronica to pop to heavy rock, while managing to stay completely unique.
My first reaction may have been, "Holy hell, this is a crappy Tub Ring record," but just three listens later, I was singing a whole different tune. Hopefully, newcomers and oldtimers alike will come to the same decision: The Great Filter exceeds all but Zoo Hypothesis (which is astonishingly well-recorded and would be tough for nearly any band to top) in Tub Ring's terrific catalogue.
Editor's Note: I think I'm gonna start using this segment just to write mini-reviews, since I never write actual reviews. Buy this album. It's available most anywhere (and for cheap!) and it's damned good. I honestly listened to it on four straight nights while driving from one locale to another. Also, be sure to catch em on their latest tour. Sorry for the pimpin, but it ain't easy.

Listen (http://www.tracksounds.com/reviews/pans_labyrinth_javier_navarrete.htm)
Well, I've been listening to a lot of soundtracks lately. The Fountain was one, but has been mentioned on here several times already, so I was between 28 Days Later and this. I went with this on the coolness of the lullaby alone. Weird dreams have been aplenty for me this week. It's also great writing music.
I also easily could've picked The Dear Hunter, but I figured I'd be the one douchebag who isn't picking that. (Side Note: I'm going to laugh when everyone makes this assumption and no one picks it. Subsequently, everyone picks it the following week to make up for it.)
Editor's Note: It's gonna happen.
