I'm back with a new batch of bands for you to check out. In this edition you will be introduced to some relatively new acts in the music scene. Also, you'll get reintroduced to a singer from a previous famous band. Can you guess which one?

MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/ericjamespace) | Website (http://www.ericjames.com/)
Eric James is the reason why people make music an integral part of their life. From the moment “Trust” hit my ears, I was drawn into his music like no other. This is a man who knows how to write a melody-laden track with overpowering emotion behind his singing.
Also, he didn’t go into making The City Lights EP with “small” on his mind. With the help of producers John Fields (Switchfoot, Sheryl Crow), Christopher Thorn and Brad Smith (Blind Melon, Anna Nalick) he has made a 6 song EP that sounds like a younger U2.
The sky is the limit when it comes to Eric James and his music. It’s going to be exciting to see what comes of this phenomenon.
RIYL: John Mayer, Mat Kearney, Pete Yorn

MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/deasvail) | Website (http://www.myspace.com/deasvail)
Music has never sounded so good until now. Deas Vail’s recently released EP, The Collapse, is immaculate. From Wes Blaylock’s vocals (which are remarkable) to the instrumentation, The Collapse is filled with passionate, melody-driven indie/rock. Deas Vail’s ability to create a vivid sense of imagery in their music with their piano arrangements mixed with their eccentric style of melody. From these 5 songs, I know for a fact this band is going to make waves when their full-length is released in the near future.
RIYL: Copeland, Death Cab For Cutie, Mutemath

MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/leighnash) | Website (http://www.leighnash.com/)
Remember Sixpence None of the Richer? The band that created hit songs “Kiss Me” and “There She Goes”. Well, behind the voice of them was Leigh Nash. The soft spoken lead singer decided to start her own project after the band disbanded. Last winter she hit up the studio with producer Pierre Marchland (Sarah McLachlan, Rufus Wainwright) to record Blue on Blue. Her debut album is absolutely profound. The sense of closeness she creates with her music, allows you to be drawn into the music and be swept away in the melodic landscape. Her lead single “My Idea of Heaven” is what I call the “perfect” song. The idea and music behind the song is simple, yet so effective. Make sure you watch the video for the song to get the full effect.
RIYL: Anna Nalick, Nellie McKay, Sarah Mclachlan

MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/joyintomorrow) | Website (http://www.joyintomorrow.com/)
If there is one thing I love about the internet, it would have to be the ability to come across so many new bands. Rather than only knowing of bands playing on the radio, word of mouth, television, you have the ability to look for yourself. With that, it makes finding that new band that more satisfying.
Joy In Tomorrow is a prime example of that. With their debut EP, A Snapshot of Who I’ve Always Been, these southerners are going to sweep the nation with their contagious style of pop/rock. “The Victory” which seems to be the lead song from the EP is full of hooks that will make you keep playing it over and over. Also, Jeff Schneeweis (of Number One Gun) produced the EP, so you know it’s going to be good. He is the one who produced Brighten’s breakout EP, Ready When You Are (one of my favorite previous unsigned bands).
So at the end of the day I thank the internet and MySpace because I probably would’ve never came across these guys if I didn’t have it.
RIYL: Brighten, Cartel, Say Anything
http://www.chrisconlan.com/images/musicthatneedstobeheard/paperroute.jpg Paper Route
MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/paperroute) | Website (http://www.paperrouteonline.com/)
If you are a fan of indie/rock music with a touch of electronica, then Paper Route is your new favorite band. This Nashville based trio is set to make waves with their self-titled EP that was released in August. Their music is a mix of Mute Math and Sigur Ros. In the song “Cityscape” there it is an instrumental track (with some vocals) with a subtle undertone that is profound. The rest of the EP follows suit with each track holding its own. Paper Route is my new favorite band. How about you?
RIYL: Beck, Mute Math, Sigur Ros
