In this edition of Music That Needs to Be Heard, you'll get a healthy dose of new music to check out. Unlike the last edition, this one features a HUGE range of musical styles. So get comfy and get ready to hear your new favorite band.

YOU CAN STREAM A SONG BY EACH BAND AT THIS LINK (http://www.breakingcustom.com/myWimpy2.html)

When I first heard My Favorite Highway last year, I knew the guys were onto something. Their self-released EP is absolutely breathtaking. While the EP may only be 3 songs, each one stands on its own and could easily be a hit. I can only imagine what their new album will sound like. If it is anything like the 3 songs out, My Favorite Highway is going places.

RIYL: Augustana, This Day & Age, The Academy Is…

The one thing I love to see is a band from my home state (Iowa) that blows me away. Their EP I Will Write You Love Letters if You Tell Me To is perfect when sitting back and just relaxing. Luke Pettipoole's voice is soothing to the ears and with the catchy melodies to add, makes for a cohesive sound. Take a listen to "Rhinemaidens" to hear what I’m talking about.

RIYL: Coldplay, Muse, The Appleseed Cast

MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/trevorhall) | Website (http://www.trevorhallmusic.com/)

Who says you can't be a great singer/songwriter at a young age? Trevor Hall, who is 19, showcases that with his The Rascals Have Returned EP. The album was produced by John Alagia (Dave Matthews Band, Jason Mraz). It definitely is reminiscent of DMB with the crystal clear guitars and vocals (listen to "The Lime Tree"). His sound is a mixture of reggae, rock, and folk which sounds like a younger Jack Johnson. This is another great summer album, so add this to your playlist for the beach.

RIYL: Jack Johnson, Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer

Who doesn't love Finnish metal? I know I do.

Norther is one of the many on the Spinefarm Records roster. Their labelmates Children of Bodom have finally impacted the U.S. soils and hopefully Spinefarm will follow suit with Norther because the guys play melodic metal to the fullest. I honestly believe their new album Til Death Unites Us blows Children of Bodom's latest release out of the water. So Spinefarm listen up and bring these guys to the states damnit!

RIYL: Amorphis, Children of Bodom, Raunchy

What makes a successful modern rock band? Too many majors believe all they need is a hit single and hopefully ride the wave of the single to the end. But to be a truly successful rock band you need to create an album that doesn't only rely on singles to sell it.

When I first heard "Breathe Into Me", it just screams radio hit. Instead of passing them off as another run-of-the-mill rock band, I gave these guys a full listen and it was the best thing I could’ve done because I haven't heard a rock album like End of Silence in awhile. Michael, lead vocalist, has the voice every rock singer wants. It is melodic with full of range, yet it can be vicious as any metal singer. But don’t think Michael is the only thing in the band, because the hooks created in songs like "Already Over" "Let Go" and "Breathe Into Me" are immaculate.

Lets this be known: Rock isn’t dead, it's Red. (Cheesy, I know)

RIYL: Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle, Linkin Park

MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/brightwood) UNSIGNED

I'm going to go out and just say it. Brightwood is probably one of the best bands out there right now, unsigned and signed. You can listen to their self-released EP, The Love Antidote, over and over and it will never go stale. Each listen is a mind-blowing experience. Andrew's voice is nothing short of amazing, especially in the song "In Memory", which is probably the bands best song musically.

I could go on and on about this band, but I will let the music speak for itself.

RIYL: Copeland, Mae, Oasis

MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/architects666) | Website (http://www.wearearchitects.co.uk/)

Don't confuse the U.S. Architects with the United Kingdom's Architects. If you threw both of them into a room I can guarantee the UK's would demolish. The guys released their debut full-length Nightmares in May and have gained some attention in their homeland. Already securing a tour with The Chariot in August and Sikth in October, the guys are on the right path. It's only a matter of time before labels in the U.S. starting hounding the band to join their roster. To sum up the band in one word, I would have to go with "chaotic".

RIYL: August Burns Red, Every Time I Die, Norma Jean

Since Cory Rennison (http://www.decoymusic.com/vb/member.php?u=2437) described these guys better than I could, I'll leave it up to him:

"It's a safe prediction that this band should have a successful career ahead of them. These guys have put together a great album that just doesn't seem to get old, and never seems to run on for to long. If you're a fan of any kind of thrash, melodic death metal, and elements of metalcore, Reprisal should be added to your CD collection as soon as possible."

RIYL: All That Remains, Darkest Hour, The Agony Scene

http://www.breakingcustom.com/images/bandstohear/070806/tylerjames.jpg Tyler James
MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/tylerjames) | Website (http://www.tylerjames.com/)

Tyler James is a 23 year-old singer/songwriter from Nashville. He released an EP back in 2005 and is making a name for himself. His is currently working on his debut full-length, but in the meantime his An EP will show you why he is someone to watch out for. While the music isn’t over-the-top, his music is beautiful in every sense of the word. Tyler's music is piano-driven, but there is also some string arrangements in his music (see "Don't Leave"). The future is looking bright for Tyler. I wish him the best.

RIYL: Coldplay, Josh Rouse, Wilco

Hot fucking damn is all I got to say! These German boys sure bring the god damn mosh I'll tell you that much. Right from the get go on "Uptown Girl", the guys show you they mean business and if you can’t take heavy music, you better leave the room.

Their sound is a mixture of grind and hardcore with a healthy dose of gangchants. You can never go wrong with those. The guys even threw in a sample from Beavis & Butthead in the song "Keeping It Up". Thumbs up in my book.

Be on the lookout for their split EP with Molotov Solution shortly.

RIYL: Job For A Cowboy, Ion Dissonance, The Dillinger Escape Plan

Yeah, the new Architects album is the shit. I hope a U.S. label picks them up soon. I spent $16 on that CD since their publicist would never get back to me.

Figured it would be an easier way to stream at least a song w/o having to worry about MySpace/PureVolume screwing up.
