Music is basically a necessity in most of our lives. Just like we need water, food, and sleep, we also need music in our days to get us by. So here is a list of some new bands that you will make your day that much better.

YOU CAN STREAM A SONG BY EACH BAND AT THIS LINK (http://www.breakingcustom.com/myWimpy.html)

http://www.breakingcustom.com/images/bandstohear/060206/faulter.jpg Faulter
MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/faulter) | Website (http://www.faultermusic.com/) JUST SIGNED TO ABACUS RECORDINGS

Faulter is the reason I keep searching for new bands. It goes to show that there is talent out there, but you have to look for it. Faulter plays an immaculate style of pop/rock that shows in their songs like "October 16th" and "Sixes and Sevens". It is only a matter of time before Faulter starts taking over people’s playlists and labels start paying attention.

RIYL: Forgive Durden, Cartel, Self Against City, Hidden in Plain View

MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/gro) | Website (http://www.greenriverordinance.com/) UNSIGNED

Hot damn Texas! Seriously, I’m claiming that the Lone Star state is the breeding ground for new rock acts. Green River Ordinance play straight up modern rock that kills most signed acts out there. The guys have already been nominated for many awards in their home state and also named one of the best college bands by MTV. So just sit back and take a listen to "Piece it Together" and be engulfed by GRO's breathtaking style of rock.

RIYL: The Afters, Switchfoot, Third Eye Blind

http://www.breakingcustom.com/images/bandstohear/060206/theverdict.jpg The Verdict
MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/theverdict) | Website (http://www.theverdictrock.com/) UNSIGNED

What really made The Verdict stand out to me was how sincere their music was. It's nothing over the top; it's just heart-felt songs of love and pain that even made this grown man cry. Hey, there is nothing wrong with that. Shit I cried in Lion King, so suck it.

Another key aspect of the band is the vocal harmonies between Chandler (guitarist/vocalist) and Emily (keyboard/guitar/backing vocals). Each has impeccable voices that just compliment each other gracefully. And I can't forget the other guys who do an amazing job as well (I didn't forget about you Jason).

RIYL: Dashboard Confessional, Terminal, The Class of 98, Goo Goo Dolls

http://www.breakingcustom.com/images/bandstohear/060206/protocol.jpg Protocol
MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/protocol) | Website (http://www.protocolofficial.com/) UNSIGNED

With the wave of British bands coming to the states, it can definitely get overwhelming with all the damn over hyping from magazines and TV. But there is always a band that doesn't need that hype to drive them because they can rely on their talent, not someone’s words.

When I first heard Protocol I knew this was one of those bands. What really sets them apart from other UK bands is vocalist John Pritchard. He voice is solid in all aspects of singing. At times he definitely reminds me of Daryl Palumbo with his all over style. Shit, speaking of Head Automatica, they need to tour with these guys. Be a perfect combo.

Once their new album Rules of Engagement is released, it's only a matter of time before they sweep the states.

RIYL: Bloc Party, Head Automatica, Oasis, The Killers

http://www.breakingcustom.com/images/bandstohear/060206/streettonowhere.jpg Street to Nowhere
MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/streettonowhere) | Website (http://www.streettonowhere.com/) Just Signed to Capitol Records

Street to Nowhere is going places. Their latest release Charmingly Awkward is perfectly titled because their style of indie/rock is just that. These young lads are set to take the music scene by storm. They will be heading out with The Format and Anathallo this summer and people will be able to see why these guys are so damn good.

RIYL: Bright Eyes, Birdmonster, The Early November

http://www.breakingcustom.com/images/bandstohear/060206/evoka.jpg Evoka
MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/evoka) | Website (http://www.evokamusic.com/) UNSIGNED

Ok, if I hear someone say that rock music is bland now, I'm going to punch you. I'm dead serious btw. When Evoka graced my ears back in late 2005, I just knew these guys were going to do something. The way they won me over was like when I first heard The Juliana Theory. They both play melodic rock that never gets old. Frontman Taylor has an impeccable voice that meshes perfectly with the insatiable melodies they create. These southern gents are about to put their name on the map, that's for sure.

RIYL: The Juliana Theory, Butch Walker, Travis

http://www.breakingcustom.com/images/bandstohear/060206/wideawake.jpg Wideawake
MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/wideawake) | Website (http://www.wideawake.com/) UNSIGNED

Uh oh, another Texas band represented. See that is why MySpace is such a great tool for finding new music. First, I heard Green River Ordinance and fell in love, and then they have Wideawake in their Top 8, so I had to check them out. Well, I'm a music whore and I fell in love Wideawake. So will you.

RIYL: Counting Crows, The Format, Need to Breathe

http://www.breakingcustom.com/images/bandstohear/060206/thefeeling.jpg The Feeling
MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/thefeeling) | Website (http://www.thefeeling.com/)

I normally don't put major label artists on these lists, but I just had to for The Feeling because I haven't seen any press for them in the states yet. The guys play in vein of 70's soft rock, but don't come off as a cheap imitation, yet they come off as a band set to embark on their musical career. The guys come from the same label that gave us Keane, so you know you're in for a treat.

I'm not sure when Twelve Stops and Home will hit stores in the states, but in the meantime listen to whatever they available to tide you over until then. On a personal note, listen to "Sewn", that's my favorite song by them.

RIYL: Beach Boys, Supertramp, Keane

http://www.breakingcustom.com/images/bandstohear/060206/nerinapallot.jpg Nerina Pallot
MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/nerina pallot) | Website (http://www.nerinapallot.com/)

For months now I've been raving about Nerina Pallot. Well, it seems like she is finally catching on because I saw her as the featured video on MySpace. When I first heard Nerina sing, she had me hooked before she got to the chorus. Her voice is flawless, her melodies are breathtaking, and her message is motivating.

RIYL: Tori Amos, Alanis Morisette, Aimee Mann

http://www.breakingcustom.com/images/bandstohear/060206/blackpoollights.jpg Blackpool Lights
MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/blackpoollights) | Website (http://www.blackpoollights.com/)

This Towns Disaster is going to be the breakthrough album of the year. Blackpool Lights already have a great track record since it contains ex-members of The Get Up Kids and theSTART. But that is of the past and it's time to focus on the "now". The guys are already on the right track playing alongside Angels and Airwaves and securing tours for this summer with Anberlin and more. The reason for that is because of what their album has to offer. Every song on the album flows into each other cohesively which makes an album that has replay value up the ying-yang.

If I were to pick one band to listen to right now, it would be these guys.

RIYL: Jimmy Eat World, The Get Up Kids, The New Amsterdams

im glad that all of these bands were considered rock instead of some indie sub-genre, way to go decoy!

I can't stand sub-genres. Why I kept it simple.

Fixed, somewhat.

You can't post javascript inside a post so I couldn't actually put the streaming player in the article itself.

Most of it is really boring, generic pop. Evoka is the sole standout . . . sounds like Ours, which is a good thing. Nerina Pallot sounds more like Cheryl Crow than the artists you compare her to, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, depending on who you ask.

I normally don't like to always tag the RIYL as bands they sound just like, but somewhat near so there is a more range.

Weak list. Evoka is the only decent act, and that's not saying too much.

I'm only really feeling Evoka and Nerina Pilot.

After The Rocking Horse Winner, I've got a soft spot for female-fronted Pop Rock.

Blackpool Lights... creepin up there.

Though I didn't like all the bands, thanks for doing this. The effort is appreciated, at least by me. The little music player is great as well. I hate following links everywhere.

Primo.

Thanks for at least being positive, even though you didn't like most of the bands.

I know doing this genre, most people who do post on this site don't like this style of music. But I post anyways because I feel these bands need to be known and I can GUARANTEE a couple of these unsigned bands will be popping up on labels roster lists here shortly..

The next Music That Needs to Be Heard articles will be mixed ones featuring hardcore, indie, hip-hop, rock, metal, you name it.

Damn dude, how do you find all these bands?

I spend A LOT of time searching for new bands. And I mean a lot of time. I have enough bands to probably do 2-3 more of these w/o having to search.

I'm constantly looking for new music to hear. So if you know of anything, let me know.
