This year has not seen many great deathcore releases yet. With metalcore bands being a dime a dozen, there's a lot of trash in the genre. Some bands, however, do stand out, including one of the best band's in the genre, Whitechapel. Their three guitar attack on metal has quickly brought them to the top of the genre. Their last release, This Is Exile, quickly made a name for the band in their genre, and it felt like they couldn't be stopped. However, as time has passed, the question is can they top what they've already done with their latest album, A New Era Of Corruption?

The album starts with the powerful “Devolver,” immediately grabbing your ears and ripping you apart from the inside. The band's instrumentals are like none other, and when you toss in the vocals of Phil Bozeman it all clicks. The solos in combination with the vocals just make you want to bang your head like a madman. The first track ends and gets picked up right away with “Breeding Violence.” Bozeman's vocals almost make it sound like he's rapping, and the guitars shred the whole time. The brutality of the song as a whole might make your head explode. “The Darkest Day Of Man” comes up next, being one of the standout tracks on the album. The song is pure death metal, full of some great, fast moving riffs, as well as some brutal breakdowns that the band throws down. “Unnerving” is a song with some hugely aggressive parts that will destroy your ears. The speed picked breakdowns, guitar sweeps, and amazing drumming by Kevin Lane make this song sound like the world is ending as you listen to it.

The album doesn't have only great solos and breakdowns, it also features some great guest vocals. The DeftonesChino Moreno makes an amazing appearance on “Reprogrammed To Hate.” The album also features a guest spot on “Murder Sermon” by The Acacia Strain's Vincent Bennett. “Murder Sermon” is probably one of the album's best tracks, featuring some amazing guitar riffs and some pretty nice breakdowns.

The album isn't perfect, though, with songs like “Necromechanical” which sounds like a puked up mess of death metal throwaway elements. The band gets lost in changing tempos and guitar-accompanied vocal patterns making this song a difficult listen. It  has a few good sections, but they almost sound like they could have been moved to a different song instead.

While the album may not be perfect, it definitely is worth a listen if you enjoy this genre of music. The creativeness of the band really makes them stand out and keep your ears surprised while listening to their album. The album features a good variety in riffs and breakdowns, something a lot of bands in this genre lack these days. Give this album a listen and decide for yourself. It's not for everyone, but it's a good listen.

I do not get what the appeal is with these guys and bands like them. 1 star simply because they can at least play their instruments. I tried and tried again with this band because 90% of my friends are on their nuts, this album cemented my thoughts on them.

I haven't listened to this yet, but I wasn't very impressed by their last album. I don't mind some deathcore every now and again, but I usually only listen to it when I need to get pumped up before a broomball game or something.

it's definitely an acquired taste.  some of my friends go apeshit for this band.  honestly, i don't, but it is a decent album if you like the genre.

That's not always what you seemed to have thought. Look at your comment of "i thought this band was awesome." from the review of their previous album... http://www.decoymusic.com/reviews/whitechapel-this-is-exile

Not a fan of this band, but this album's not bad. Just not something I dig that much. There are probably four songs that stand out to me, and the rest are just rehash.

Wow....any type of praise I would give this album would be met with extreme negativity.....so I think I'll keep it to myself.
