The Take Action compilation is a yearly release that is for a good cause. Five percent of each CD sale goes to a different cause every year with this year's money going towards Driving For Donors and Do Something. While the release doesn't have the greatest songs, for around $6 you can get a total of 35 tracks to add to your iPod (which is roughly 17 cents per track).

Most of the songs on here are new b-sides, remixes, acoustic songs, and unreleased material from some of the most known (and relatively unknown) signed bands in the music scene right now. The release opens with We The Kings doing a public service announcement telling what the release is about and the cause that the money is going to. The band also has a cover of Jimmy Eat World's “The Middle” that is definitely worth a listen. With every compilation album, there are also filler tracks that seem very unnecessary, such as the Casey Bates remix of 3OH!3's “Don't Trust Me” and Bring Me The Horizon's “Sleep With One Eye Open” Tek One remix. It is always nice to hear some of the b-sides that these compilations have to offer such as Set Your Goals' “The Lost Boys”, a b-side from This Will Be The Death Of Us that features New Found Glory's Jordan Pundik. Hit The Lights also brings a pretty nice acoustic track, “Liars and Cheats”, to the table.

The main bummer about this release is the absence of a DVD with music videos, something that has been a part of past compilations that many have enjoyed. It's always nice to see some of those music videos on your television rather than on youtube. Another blunder for this release would be all of the remixes that are included. None of the remixes seem to stand out at all and most seem to be thrown together just to fill up space and pad out this release. Some of the acoustic tracks seem to just be thrown on here too, but at least some of them sound decent. The release also seems to lean towards a pop punk audience with only a few hardcore tracks thrown into the mix.

If you want an honest opinion, you should probably skip this year's Take Action compilation. If you have an extra few bucks that you want to throw to a good cause and get something in return, then go ahead and pick this up. With 35 songs for you to listen to, it really isn't that bad of a deal.

There really wasn't anything on this albums to make it worth the (very affordable) price.  It's like they took everything they could find from the cutting room floors and garbage cans that hadn't been emptied yet and tossed what they could onto these two discs.  Lame.
