Cover songs are great additions to any band's set list for a good live show. Hearing a favorite old song done by a favorite current band can work out pretty nicely sometimes. The problem is that there are some bands out there that think they can pull off any song they please. Punk Goes Classic Rock is filled with these bands it seems like. Punk Goes Classic Rock is pretty much the definition of a bad collection of mediocre pop punk covers.

As far as the bands included go, there are a few bands that are considered good and the rest are just myspace bands built on hype. But then again, this whole collection seems to be built on hype. The track listings always are the first thing posted online, followed by one of the lesser anticipated songs. By the time the whole album gets streamed (or leaked), people already realize that the hype was simply that, hype, and leads to such a let down in the end. I'm not really going to point fingers at the “myspace bands” on this collection, but people should be able to pick out those bands pretty easily.

The song selection by the bands was decent, perfect for that aforementioned hype. It looks good on the paper booklet included with the CD, but when you listen to the actual album, it doesn't live up. Don't get me wrong, there are a few decent songs on this album and by decent, I mean it sounds good, but it gets old pretty fast. We The Kings' cover of .39 Special's “Caught Up In You” is a pretty good example of this. The song is a decent cover, and the band is covering something that they could have probably written. Halfway through the song, though, it doesn't seem as good as it was at first. That's pretty much how I felt about most of the songs on the album. Some were skip-worthy in the first minute or so, and some were a decent listen all the way through. Even looking at the track listing, I can't really pick a favorite, stand out track. The two most interesting covers are probably The Almost's “Free Fallin'” and I See Stars' “Your Love”. Both provide an enjoyable listen all the way through and are pretty strong tracks.

This addition to the Punk Goes... series is, in all honesty, just a pile of crap. The sad part is that it will sell to the fans of the “myspace bands” on this collection. Just skip this if you don't want to waste an hour of your life. Fearless Records, please retire the Punk Goes... series, because you can't make it any worse.

They really need to stop with these.  I think they have worn out their welcome.

There's not a song on the entire album I would care to hear. This is just horrible.

I think there are a couple bands who could pull off Queen... Muse is at the top of my list.  But the bands picked for the Queen covers are just ridiculous!!!

RAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

Surprised this even got two stars.

And true people shouldn't cover Queen, but I think the real reason for that is because Queen was pretty lame! There I said it!
