With their sophomore effort, True Parallels, Trust Company look to build upon their successful debut released two years ago. It’s been a while since they’ve put out any new material, and in that time the face of rock has changed--nu metal is no longer as dominant as it once was. While not heavy by any means, there was a good amount of potential to be found in this band, potential that they didn't fulfill.

Trust Company have always had a melody-driven rock sound with only slight glimpses of metal intertwined in each song. This album finds them treading through the same territory as their debut. There are similar structurings to the songs, as well as that same atmospheric sound they've used to death. Having gone through some lineup changes, one might expect for some changes to the overall band sound, but this is most definitely not the case.

I’ve always thought covers are a cheap way to fill in an album, and Trust Company’s take on the classic Clash tune, "Rock the Casbah," is far from being good. While some bands find a cover song to be the perfect way to garner attention they might need in starting out, they do not belong on a band's sophomore disc. They would’ve been better off writing a rock ballad, or something equally as crappy, instead of throwing this cover into the mix. It doesn’t fit the rest of the album and whatever they were trying to pull off turned out to be a failure.

Being quite the trendy and accessible band on their previous album, Trust Company takes things a step closer to pop this time around which is really too bad. Taking what could’ve been a potentially original, fresh sound back when these guys were known as 41down, they have now been watered down even further than on their last release. It seems in the end Geffen has turned this band into just another radio-friendly rock outfit fit for mass teen consumption.
