Ah, Thursday...one of my more favorite bands in recent years. Since their contract ran out with Victory Records so they could make the jump to a major, they owed Victory one more record. What a better way to finish out in style, than with a live EP. What can I say, besides it's pretty fucking good. I will gripe that if you've seen them live, then the first four songs probably won't do anything for you, but if you haven't, it's fucking great. The screaming is definitely a hell of a lot more powerful than ever, though. It was recorded at a show in New Jersey, the band's hometown. I've heard some impressive bootlegs online that could rival this, but that's where the beauty of "Jet Black New Year" comes in. What a fucking brilliant track! This has masterpiece written all over it! It's such an impressive track, and indescribably heavy! If they keep doing songs like these, who knows how far they could go. What a superb EP for a killer band. If you don't own Full Collapse (quite possibly one of the best albums of 2001), then you probably should pick this up. Hell, even if you own Full Collapse, go pick up the EP. If not for the live tracks, "Jet Black New Year" will blow you away, and that song is probably worth the price of the disc alone.
