The Showdown is taking it right to the core with their sophomore release Temptation Come My Way. Unlike their previous endeavor, A Chorus of Obliteration, the guys stripped away the growling/screaming and went for a straight-forward southern rock/metal sound. Much like the new He Is Legend disc Suck Out the Poison, the new album is jam-packed with blistering solos with a southern twist.

It’s probably a given that many fans of the previous album are either going to love this release or hate it. So when going into Temptation Come My Way you really have to go in listening with an open-mind. If there is one thing The Showdown don’t lack in, it's in the guitar department. Every single song on the album contains a guitar lick that is memorable as the one before it.

In the title track “Temptation Come My Way”, the boys bring down the house with the dual attack from Josh Childers and Travis Bailey and when the chorus hits all hell breaks loose. Vocalist, David Bunton, commands the mic like a man bent on hurting someone or something. If this song doesn’t get your blood flowing, you’re probably dead. The boys also did a little tweaking to previously released “Breath of the Swamp”. While the tweaking isn’t that noticeable, people who never got the chance to hear this song will get the opportunity to hear one of The Showdown’s best tracks. Southern metal at its finest.

With that statement above, you can get the jist of what to expect from the rest of the album. The Showdown take each song and make them into an anthem from “Six Feet Under” to Bon-Jovi-esque “It Drinks From Me”. Even the guys cover of Kansas’ “Carry on Wayward Son” is rockin. The songs are loud enough to fill an arena. While this album may not be as fast as the previous, I will say it is definitely harder hitting and more memorable. Call me crazy, but I found myself listening to this disc much more than A Chorus of Obliteration.

Like mentioned earlier in the review, this album is going to hated or loved. Temptation Come My Way is going to open the doors for The Showdown to play to bigger audiences and be heard by more people. So put on your ripped jeans, cowboy boots, and let’s fucking party.

Chris, I hate to say it, but this album is sorta like having a 10 inch black dildo shoved in your ear over and over -- it hurts that bad listening to it. This CD is laughably bad. A 4 it is definitely not.

And yes, I'm back. How y'all been?

The first time I heard this album, I really didn't like it much. I was a huge fan of their last album though, so I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt on this one and give it a few more spins. After giving it a few days, I've really come around on this one. Seriously, this album kicks ass. Lots of it. They abandoned the sound from the last album, which, although it bummed me out, didn't have nearly as much to set it apart from the crowd as this one does. The guitar work is really impressive. The vocals are great too. It sounds like they really did what they wanted to do on this one. And those riffs are a blast to play. Really really good stuff. I would give this one a 4 1/2 easy.

You guys are sooooooo BLIND and deaf at the same time.... The Showdown's new CD is freakin AWESOME, I don't even care what ANYONE says, the new CD is AWESOME. Best music I've ever heard, and trust me, I've listened to all the bands out there... Metallica, AC/DC, haste the day, lynard skynard, pantera, demon hunter, killswitch engage, unearth, iron maiden, judas priest, the scorpions, motley crue, boston, kansas, foreigner, trivium, man i've heard them all. Those are just SOME metal bands i've heard... They all a bunch of screamers except the classics i named off. Anyone can scream, big whoop. The Showdown can deliver it ALLL to you. Metal, Southern Rock, Death Metal, Screamo, Classic Rock, Hair Metal.... From that to Alternative, The Showdown can deliver like no other, The Showdown deserves a 5/5 rating. It's like nothin I've heard before, keeping away from the crowd of bands who are all competing to be better at the same thing as each other, when The Showdown IS better at anything everything. The new CD is a masterpiece which people should recognize and appreciate. You know anyone with the guts like these guys, bringing back Southern Rock, with a Metal edge. These guys aced it. AWESOME JOB GUYS, can't wait to buy the new CD....

bullshit. your above passage is self explainatory. no one should defend this cd like you did...simply because it's a piece of shit album, especially compared to "chorus of obliteration."

Dude, I'm not freaking street team. I just think this band is freakin awesome and deserves some respect. Nobody can pull off death metal AND southern rock like The Showdown. It's unheard of, it's freakin awesome. How many times i gotta say that? BRILLIANT is all I gotta say. I defend it cause I've been pumped up for the new CD for months now. Call me street team or whatever you want, ur wasting ur time, believe me, if I was street team, I would let you know, with ALL the other street teamers as well ;) It wouldn't just be me up in here posting.

Ok, the death metal I don't agree on. Not sure where you are getting that especially on the new CD. You want death metal, listen to Six Feet Under.

Also, by going into much detail on why you liked the CD and constantly defending your statement doesn't help. You like it, you like it. If someone else doesn't, so be it. I'm the one who wrote the review and although people disagree with me, it happens.

Ok, so "death metal" isn't exactly the right label, but I was talking about "A Chorus of Obliteration" it's hardcore/screamo mostly. The new CD is southern metal, with a few yells in it, like the song "Breath of The Swamp" and "Fanatics And Whores." They called me a street teamer, so I was informing them that i am not. I just kinda think they do deserve some respect, i dont care if you like them or not, but i think they deserve respect for being able to switch genres like that. I think it's amazing, but that's just me of course. That's all, just want SOME respect at least.

There is no such thing as respect in the music industry. Unless you are Bob Dylan.
