If you are a wine drinker, you’ve probably heard the saying, “Wine gets better with age.” The same goes for Bryce Avary and his band The Rocket Summer. From the band’s earlier days up to their new album Do You Feel, Bryce himself has gone from some guy with a high pitched voice singing loves songs to a full fledged artist who has developed his craft over through years of experience. On Calendar Days you were introduced to happy-go-lucky love songs, and then there was Hello Good Friend, which was Byrce’s way of growing up. Although the album had a more solid rock vibe to it, there were only a couple of tracks that grabbed your attention, and if there is one thing Bryce can do, it is write a memorable pop song.

So with speculation already on the tip of my tongue, heading into Do You Feel was a bit rough. At first listen, things really didn’t click. Instead of doing the usual and tossing the CD to the side, however, another listen was in order. With a new mindset, my ears finally were able to hear the melodies. Lead single “So Much Love” is The Rocket Summer at the top of their game. Bryce’s vocals soar over the hooks and the hint of jazz in the song gives it a different vibe than what most fans are used to.

What’s the most surprising about Do You Feel are the amount of songs that scream “repeat”. Basically every song on this album has repeat-value, especially tracks like “Save”, a song that could easily take over the radio, and “High Life Scenery”, which will have you singing every word at the top of your lungs.

The Rocket Summer isn’t reinventing pop music, they are just making it better than most. If more bands in the genre put this much heart into their music, people would probably start paying a lot more attention to bands like The Rocket Summer instead of throwing their money at bands like The Plain White T’s.

This is an excellent effort by The Rocket Summer and the review is spot on. The progression between each of the discs is done very well and just keep getting better and better. Definitely worth checking out.
