Concept albums can be either hit or miss these days, especially in a genre where bands tend to sound very alike. The Devil Wears Prada took the concept of zombies and managed to make an epic metalcore EP about it. The band has been developing their sound more and more with each album, including their release last year, With Roots Above and Branches Below. The real question is has the band developed their sound even more with this album or is this just a shortened version of their last album?
“Escape” opens the album strongly starting with a synth intro into the album soon joined by a fast and heavy guitar riff along with the screams of Mike Hranica. Hranica's screams have only gotten better as he now has a lot more deeper screams, as well as high screams. The music itself is noticeably faster and a lot heavier, but the band still manages to keep their signature metalcore sound amongst all the changes. “Anatomy” opens with a chainsaw starting up, soon joined by a dual attack of guitar and synth. The band loves to change up riffs, drum beats, and screams throughout the song, making sure your ears are never bored with the same old chugs. Another noticeable difference in the band's sound is that they have really strayed away from clean vocals on this release. While they are there, it seems like you only get to hear them once a song, if that.
“Outnumbered” starts with an intro that helps the concept progress with a public service announcement about “the infected” that is both creepy and realistic. After the announcement, the band comes back in with more heavy, fast moving riffs. The song keeps it heavy and fast, even when you can hear a nicely done piano part in the background during this song. “Revive” is a pretty unique track on this release. The chorus includes the most clean vocals on the album along with some gang vocals. The band keeps it heavy, though, along with some eerie sounding synth noises and breaking glass sound effects. “Survivor” is a great final song for the EP as the band shows talent in every department showcasing plenty of bass and guitar riffs, a pretty nice drum part, some pretty high clean vocals, and some good screaming from Hranica.
Zombie showcases The Devil Wears Prada's ability to create a fun EP but still not slack at all in being heavy. This band is progressing their sound more and more with each release they put out, and they show no sign of slacking off at all. If anything, this EP makes you want more from this band. If you have thought The Devil Wears Prada wasn't heavy enough before, you should probably reconsider that thought after this release.

4.5? Really? For an above average EP? I feel like Decoy is slowly turning into TheNewReview because of all of the stellar scores given out for above average albums.

can't argue with what people like. the new leniency on ratings has increased the hits and made things a lot more positive round these parts.

i originally had a 4 but then i realized that there wasn't really anything wrong with the EP besides the fact that it was an EP and not a full length album

I feel like Mike's scream has been getting weaker and weaker, but it's still pretty damn good. This entire EP is awesome.

see i thought he's getting better at having more range to his screams. they do kind of seem a tad bit weaker, but i like that he's trying to expand on it still.
