Its not everyday that an album comes along that completely catapults a band into stardom almost overnight. I knew that after the first time I saw The Bled live that I was in for a treat with the new album. Breaking lose from their hometown in Arizona, The Bled have set out to do nothing less than conquer the world.
'Pass The Flask' is a coming of age masterpiece the way I see it. I have heard The Bled prior to the new Lp and my idea of the band has changed dramatically. They bring the flurry, the pain, the emotion to the music and that was what sucked me in and had me hooked after one listen. Beginning the album with 'Red Wedding' the stage was a set early for the next almost forty minutes of my life. It was one that experienced many changes, The Bled do not just come out and hit you hard, they show you while they're doing it that they're one fucking talented band. The breakdowns in 'Red Wedding' are one that had me almost pissing my pants, the power behind the riffs leaves you with goosebumps as well as the feeling of what else can these guys have in store for me. I think the breakdown where they slow it down in this song is one of the heaviest parts of the album.. pure intensity throughout "you will pay the price!/close your eyes and die!". Never letting the album die too much they keep the attack amassed and forceful with 'You Know Who's Seatbelt' which had to be changed from a clearly very controversial Dale Earnhardts Seatbelt. This was the song that I had first heard from these guys and another strong song. This album is kind of like a roller coaster as well, with its ups and downs, mixing in some melody into some songs as well as some singing parts also showcases the talent The Bled posses. My favorite track off the album is by far 'Ruth Buzzi Better Watch Her Back', it has just enough melody and just enough hardcore to make this one stand out in a nearly perfect album, not the mention the breakdown is out of control. 'Pass The Flask' breaks out as one of the frontrunners for my top5 of 2003, this album manages to grab you and hold onto you while you run through the torments and the creative energy that is consumed in this album. Not to be forgotten are some songs such as 'Porcelain Hearts & Hammers for Teeth' which is a soft eerie type song that had me listened to every lyric feeling the music. The album climax is reached during the last song.. one that will surely stand out and leave your taste buds wanting much more.
I can clearly say that there is no song that should not be on this album. 'Pass The Flask' is one of those albums that will surely be in everyones cd player for awhile for the remainder of 2003. It may have shown up on the radar very quietly, but there's no telling how far these guys will go.. and if this album is any indication there is no limit.

I just got this in the mail the other day (been buying a bunch of CDs that I've been meaning to for a while) and am spinning it right now and, man, even though I wasn't initially a fan of this album I sure dig the hell out of it now. Don't know if I'd quite give it the 4.5/5 you did Aaron, but it's definitely an album that still rocks years after its release!

oh man, i forgot about that album. it beats the hell out of any of the other stuff they did, in my opinion.

I remember when I loved these guys and Rick couldn't stand them. Thankfully, he saw it my way. I agree, it is best Bled album.

i put this on today since it was one of my last reviews ive done for music and my god is it still one of my favorite albums of all time. i remember being hungover as fuck at the lake/dunes in glamis and just blasting the a/c and smoking a bowl and blaring this album. it damn well may have cured my hangover, epic is the only way to describe it still to this day. why did they go so downhill after this, I expected and still want another one of these kinds of records to hit me this hard.

Haha yeah. This album will always be up there as one of the best. Fiddler Records at one point was unstoppable: Dashboard, New Found (I believe), Name Taken (totally underrated), The Bled, and more.

I'll still be the voice of dissention and say that I thought Found in the Flood was their best effort.
