Seven Wiser is Wind-Up's latest offering to the rock listening masses. Not wanting to break with their continual output of bland, similar sounding artists, Seven Wiser is yet another wannabe radio rock band in the vein of Creed, Nickelback, Closure, and Finger Eleven. If you're as sick of this genre as I am, just move on to the next review because there isn't going to be anything new or original talked about in the rest of this review.
If you haven't had your fill of the radio friendly rock sound, then Seven Wiser is a decent disc for you to pick up. The songs are pretty catchy, yet extremely formulaic, covering all the prerequisites for a standard rock release.
a.. Hard rock opening, check ("Life" and "We're Sad").
b.. Rock ballads for radio play, check ("Take Me as I Am", "Losing Grip", and
"Self Esteem").
c.. Crunchy set of tracks for the people that think this style of music is
"heavy", check ("Regret", "Good as You Think", and "Lies").
d.. Mellow closing songs followed by one last rocker, check.
This cd has basically been released about 20 times in the last couple years, just with the band name and album title changed. It is really hard to differentiate Seven Wiser's sound from the plethora of other bands playing this style. If anything, this is a very safe release for Wind-Up because this disc is guaranteed to sell at least a few copies since it sounds so much like every other band on the label. At least Wind-Up is consistent in what type of bands they sign.
So, if you hate originality, buy this cd. If you are having emotional issues knowing that Creed broke up, buy this cd to hold you over until their reunion tour. If you think Nickelback is the epitome of music, buy this cd. If you only like cds that sound like the crap they play on top 40 rock radio, buy this cd.
If you want something even remotely new and different than what's already out there, forget the name Seven Wiser because they definitely aren't it.
