From their debut EP, Take It How You Want It, the guys of Self Against City have shown that they are easily a top contender for the best band on the Drive-Thru roster. We all know the past history of bands on DTR, but there hasn’t been many that have been able to take the place of acts such as Something Corporate or New Found Glory, but with SAG’s debut full-length Telling Secrets to Strangers, the guy’s outshine their previous endeavor tenfold.

Telling Secrets to Strangers is 11 songs of pure melodic pop/rock. The guys definitely fine toned their sound with this new album because the sound compared to the previous EP is impeccable. Songs like “Talking to the Mirror”, “Becoming a Monster”, and “Ready and Willing” show how much this band has improved. Their sense of melody has been crafted and the guitar work and vocals are more prominent. Also, Jonathan Michael’s vocals have gotten stronger and he sounds a lot more confident behind the mic.

The guys also got help from producer Steve Haigler (Brand New, Fuel), who gave the full-length a sense of clarity. On their EP the songs were a bit dry which dragged the EP along, but on the full-length the songs are lucid and crisp.

With the rise and popularity of young pop/rock bands such as Cartel and Paramore, Self Against City are hitting the scene at the perfect time. Telling Secrets to Strangers is an album that has promise of becoming a huge hit for Drive-Thru. We shall see.

oh man i thought this was some of the most generic emo crap id heard in awhile. Maybe one track was alright, but other than that i was really underwhelmed by it.

I dig this as well....just listened to it a few times on the full album stream, but it's got some catchy popish tunes

i liked the ep a lot but i listened to this record and i'm not too sure about it. there's nothing as catchy as the title track of the ep.
