Do you ever have those days where you just want to destroy something beautiful? My guess just about everyone could probably answer yes to that at some point in their life. Scars of Tomorrow have written the soundtrack to that act with Rope Tied to the Trigger. Sharing a label with the likes of Atreyu, Between the Buried and Me, and Darkest Hour can’t be easy. However, the boys in Scars certainly carve out their niche in the Victory lineup.
“Rip your face off” are some of the first words that come to mind when thinking of this album. Front to back it doesn’t disappoint in the screams department. The riffing found here can only be described as crunchy and crushing. Unless you are a seasoned fan of the band or you pay especially close attention, all the songs start to blend together. The chaos that is their sounds really comes together on the track “Will Hell Arise” and “Break the Fall.” I just can’t quite get used to the vocal style on this disc though. The scream is very heavy and full, but the clean vocals are almost crying or whining sounding. The vocalist drags out the ends of his phrases and those moments become monotonous.
Give Scars of Tomorrow credit. They’ve put together one of those records you can put on and just let it all out. It’s aggression at its purest. While they lack in variations of style and maybe some in the vocal arenas, they serve their purpose.
