2001 was a year where rock music (aka: nu-metal at the time) was at the forefront. With major releases from Drowning Pool, Puddle of Mudd, Staind, and Nickelback came the second full-length from Saliva entitled Every Six Seconds. The album featured hit singles “Your Disease” and “Click Click Boom”. They topped the singles charts, were selling albums, and riding the wave of success. After their debut the band released two more full-lengths, neither gaining as much exposure as their debut, and now release their latest, Blood Stained Love Story.

Saliva’s new album is an odd one. It seems many bands from their generation have slowly dwindled away because they started off in a genre where everyone loved them and then slowly started to hate them. To try and keep themselves on the market, they go for what is “in”. So while people still talk about how much nu-metal was junk, why would you make your first single reminiscent of the past? “Ladies and Gentlemen” tries to come off as an anthemic song, but falls short. While the tone of the song is definitely catchy, lyrically all you will remember about the song is hearing Josey Scott chant “Ladies and Gentlemen”. Also, it seems like the guys love to use the word boom in their songs.

In what is probably going to be their next single, “King of the Stereo”, the guys yet again create a track that sounds like it was from their Every Six Seconds release. I guess they were trying to make “Click Click Boom Part 2”. Then you have a song like “Twister” that is completely from left field. It almost sounds like The All-American Rejects' “Swing, Swing”. Plus, their track “Black Sheep”. Come on, how about we copy Nickelback’s “Animal”?

Saliva is a band past their prime and Blood Stained Love Story is an absolute trainwreck.

i hate to nitpick, but every six seconds wasn't their debut. they had a s/t like 4 years before that. but oh well, this band sucks anyway and i don't even know why this record felt the need to be recorded.

If by terrible you mean popular, then you've got something. Sure they write what seems to be the same song over and over, but they found what sells and know how to duplicate it. I guess that makes them terrible.....
Saliva on the other hand...this band is UNABLE to write an album without a song with "BOOM" in it...I thought it was catchy back in the day, but I'd say that style has come and gone.

Josey just tries too damn hard

I bought the new CD, expecting something good.... Don't know what I was thinking honestly, I mean, just read the name of the album "Blood Stained LOVE STORY." It's really soft, and nowhere near as good as I hoped...

Sadly this band is one of my guilty pleasure. I liked them a lot when Every Six Seconds came out (I was like 13), and then actually liked Back Into Your System better. The next album (that I don't even remember the title of) had a few decent songs, but overall was pretty crappy. I gave this record one listen when it first leaked, didn't think it was terrible, but didn't feel the need to listen to it again either.

They are gonna be in town Saturday, and I will probably wind up going.
