Blistering drumming, metal riffing, slick lyrics, and speed is what we used to yearn for when it came to punk rock. It's almost a lost art nowadays as youngsters far and wide are looking to be the next band with hair in their faces, "original" breakdowns, and gruff screams that shatter your ears. I seem to be one of the few that misses the good old days when it was a lot harder to create a band worth something. Sure, The Offspring brought punk rock to the mainstream, but they still did what they did well and turned a lot of new kids onto the fast punk rock a lot of us here at DecoyMusic.com grew up on. It's always a pleasure to find bands that are still stuck in the past and doing the genre justice, much like Pour Habit have done with their new record, Got Your Back.
Get your circle pits ready because Pour Habit come out firing on opener "Dead Soldiers Bay" with its blistering beat fueled by a political lyrical assault all while flying through with the utmost punk rock savageness. Their skate punk tunes are most reminiscent of a mix of Propagandhi, NOFX, and Lagwagon. Keeping it real to the Fat Wreck sound that got them signed, these guys flat out blaze through three-minute song after three minute song. "Heads of State" and "Matter of Opinion" stand out amongst the onslaught of intensity as each song clocks in at right around three minutes, which is exactly how punk rock should be--quick and to the point. Strong influences from the likes of Descendents and TSOL shine through on "Greenery" and "Code Blue," and even some reggae can be found on the groove friendly "Conscience Mind of Revelation," which keeps this album fresh enough to power through to the end with ease.
Although you're not going to find a whole lot of variety on Got Your Back, what you will find is fast, friendly punk rock that hits the spot and fills a void that not many bands are exploring anymore. When the dust from the circle pits settles all you need to do is push play again and relive your childhood like it was just yesterday. So grab yourself a keg, tap it, throw on Pour Habit, and give yourself one hell of a Southern California party.

These guys sound awesome. Never heard of them till this. Haven't listened to the full album, but 1:30 previews on itunes give me a good idea of what they are about. I'll eventually get around to the full listen. Remind me of The Offspring with a faster, harder edge.
