Placebo’s latest, Meds, is a bit chiller than I would care for. Most of the songs are hit or miss for me. Wait, let me rephrase that. Most Placebo songs in general are hit or miss for me. I enjoy the more upbeat Placebo songs like “Every Me Every You” and “Brick Shithouse” from 2000’s Without You I’m Nothing. Aside from the fact that the tempo in Meds may seem a bit dragging, it does not change my overall opinion of the band.

The entire CD is a showcase of fuzz tone, electronic guitar work, crooning vocals, and an array of strange instruments. Together they blend to make an interesting mix of melody. The melody is hidden in Meds, but hidden a bit to well. What always drew me to Placebo was Brian Moloko’s voice. On Meds, it is exciting and fresh within the first few songs of the disc, but later fell short of my expectations. The CD drug through the middle tracks, but then soon picked up on the last song, “Song to Say Goodbye”.

Placebo tried hard but just couldn't pull it off. If I was a schoolteacher, which I hope to never be, I would give this disc a C+. It has some standout tracks ("Infra-Red", "Because I Want You", "Song to Say Goodbye"), but I found the rest of the CD boring. As much as I enjoy Placebo, I felt that they could have done better with this effort.

I think I give the album a little more credit then you. Meds, to me, is their most complete album since Without You I'm Nothing.

You play to win the game.

totally disagree, in fact my opinion of your musical taste just dwindled drastically.

This CD deserves a perfect five. Their best cd to date. (And I think the singers name is Brian Molko, not Moloko)

i've never considered placebo an album band. they're one of those bands that will always annoy me in lengthy settings, and this album is no exception. i love listening to them randomly, and when i do want to listen to them, i almost always reach for without you i'm nothing and black market music. ehh this one i don't really see myself reaching for down the line. i hope i'm wrong, though.

i haven't heard anything from this album yet, but everything i've heard from them has been whiney and boring. i'll probably give it a listen though.

come on, adam...seriously?

I'm not here to make things better; only to observe and pass judgement.

Perhaps he was going for "commandant," as in the highest ranking officer in a military organization . . . you know, as a sign of respect or something.

Or maybe I'm going crazy.

Ben, my choice was obviously an acceptable internet shortcut. Dant's was a misstep in English grammar....get it together man.
