Permanent Me started off their career as Yes Virginia before changing their name. At the time of YV, the guys were an unsigned act slowly gaining buzz on MySpace with their melodic style of pop/rock. The band caught the attention of I Surrender Records and then soon released their debut EP, Dear Virginia. After the release of the EP, the band then signed to Stolen Transmission, which was a label that recently started up as an imprint of Island Records and was looking to snatch up young talent. Permanent Me seemed like the obvious choice, but does their new full-length live up to the generated buzz?
The answer is yes and no. The one thing that was so great about PM in the beginning was how upbeat their songs were. “Allison” was a hit song, as well as “Christine”. On After the Room Clears the guys turned down the pop throughout most of the album which really made the album drag its feet. The tempo of the album is shaky making it have no cohesion, which in turn makes for a jumbled listen. At times you’ll be really getting into the album with songs such as “Until You Leave” and “Blackjaw”, but then get tossed a lackluster song (i.e. “4 AM”). The constant switching really starts to make you want to go listen to another CD.
It seems this album has been met with mixed reviews from many critics citing the band needed to push the envelope on this album more, rather than playing the safe bet they did. That statement is definitely true. Permanent Me has the ability to become a huge act, but if they continue with another album like this one, don’t be surprised to see this band slowly losing steam. It might just be me, but doesn't this album remind you of every Plain White T’s album?

True true. I don't have any desire to listen to this CD again. Maybe for 2 songs and that's about it.
