I finally decided to check this album out. For those who dont know a New Found Glory they are the newest addition to Drive-Thru Records. This five piece band hails from Florida, and brings with them a melodic sound that will soon make them real popular. This is a total cover cd filled with songs from different movies. It starts off with "That Thing You Do," you know the movie by the same name with Tom Hanks as the manager of a band back in the 60s or 70s. Anyway its a pretty cool rendition of the song, but there are definately better songs on here. It then goes into the theme from "the Never Ending Story." I found this song to be superb, being a long time fan of the movie since I was kid, this song made me want to rent the movie again. They add their own touch, and having it played in punk just adds to how tight this song really is. Then it goes to "Armaggeddon," or the song Aerosmith did for the movie "I Don't Want to Miss Thing." They remade the song perfectly with their style, they even have the noise of a plane taking off at the beginning. It's not real fast, but definately a good cover. Then some song from the "Goonies" movie, which I have never heard before, and the cover didn't excite me. Then it goes to "The Glory of Love." After listening to the song over and over I tried and tried to figure out what movie the song is in. With no prevail I looked on the webpage and found out its in "the Karate Kid (Part 2)." This is probably my favorite song on this release. Nice tempo and use of different pauses and chords to enhance the song to be even better than I remember it. Then they finish up with Bryan Adam's "Everything I Do (I do it for you), from the Robin Hood movie, and the theme songs by Celine Dion from "Titanic" "My Heart Will Go On." They're tight covers, but I didnt feel them like some of the other covers. Maybe the fact I'm sick of the Titanic song didn't help, but im not cracking on the music behind it, they're a good band...and I think they're definately going places. Can't wait till they release their follow-up to "Nothing Gold Can Stay." I keep reading and hearing they are supposed to be emo, but I think they've kept some emo with the lyrics and voice, but added a touch more punk to their music, and I'm really enjoying it.
Bottom Line: Good release of some cover songs, its only $8 and its good music, so if you're not stressing your cashflow I'd say check it out, I dont see listening to it over and over tho.
