Nails’ Unsilent Death is an exercise in lush melodies and expansive soundscapes, evoking a sense of inner peace and tranquility in the listener… or not. More accurately, this is raw, savage, undistilled rage. A nail is a most unforgiving object. Hard and sharp, it exists to be hammered into plaster or other surfaces that will yield to its pounding; in the case of this disc, the surface will be your face. Diversity is a luxury, and brevity is the name of the game, with these ten songs clocking in at less than 14 minutes in total, but what a ride those 14 minutes are.
Nails’ noisy assault is best characterized as a mix of grind and power-violence with some hardcore overtones. This thing is caustic and merciless, enough to peel paint off the walls. It’s a full-throttle blitzkrieg, an unrelenting torrent, and an avalanche of thick grime and vitriol. There’s so much hate spewed forth in such a short amount of time it takes a few listens to process everything that’s going on. Most of the record flies by in a flurry of blasts, but the few times where the band slows down to drop into a groove or a breakdown are made that much more effective by the contrast.
Unsilent Death does not exactly pick up where the Obscene Humanity EP left off, particularly in the noticeable down-playing of the thrash influence and the accentuating of the grind elements. The band does sound way tighter, and the always-excellent production courtesy of Kurt Ballou brings Nails’ best moments to the forefront. If I had a criticism it would be that Unsilent Death is way too short to be considered a full-length, but taken for what it is, it absolutely destroys. Concise and simply brutal, this record is recommended to all you masochists out there.

You should write post-rock reviews dude. Don't even listen. Just write variants of that line and you'll make mad ducats.
