It’s a shame Murder Death Kill’s latest release Instigate Infiltrate Annihilate isn’t a practical joke, because it works better in that medium than it does as an actual hardcore album. Whenever angry meatheads are met with heavy music, the results are sure to be disastrous and Murder Death Kill is certainly not an exception to that rule. The band features Pitbull Dan, which that name alone sets up so many potential sarcastic jabs I’m not sure which one to spike down first. Getting back on track though, Pitbull Dan is an ex member of… okay I’m sorry, but what’s with the nickname? Are you that ferocious that you snarl and bark at strangers? Do you like to lick your own balls or sniff other people’s butts? Nothing says “I’m tough” like naming yourself after a canine that is known for having a goofy and friendly temperament, despite the assumption that all Pit Bulls are vicious animals.

Okay but seriously, Dan (let’s just call him Dan for the sake of this review) is a former member of Blood Stands Still and Donnybrook. Murder Death Kill started as a side project for Dan and this excerpt from their biography eloquently describes the band’s sound: “The idea with Murder Death Kill was to work in super heavy metal parts and two vocalists, one delivering hardcore vocals and one heavier vocals.”

By the sound of Instigate Infiltrate Annihilate, what he really meant to say was that the idea behind Murder Death Kill was to write the most boring, generic, and bland hardcore riffs imaginable, accompanied by not one, but two vocalists that both sound equally terrible. Two vocalists rarely work in a band’s favor and this is definitely not the one to break that mold. Decent music can pick up the slack for the vocals in many cases, but as I mentioned before, the songwriting lacks even a hint of originality. We all know that every possible breakdown has been created already but at least try to do something a little different.

It’s pointless to talk about the songs on this album in detail; take any generic “tough guy” hardcore record released in the last few years, substitute it with this one and nobody would know the difference. It seems like Murder Death Kill’s goal with this album was to churn out mindless drivel just so they have a reason to go on tour and with that, they are very successful. Their only saving grace is that their hearts seem to be in the right place, but they need to back that up with at least somewhat respectable songs.

Dun da dun dada dun THIIIIIIIIIS, dun da dun dada dun ALBUUUUUM, dun da dun dada dun SUUUUUUUUUCKS.

Fucking horrendous band. I saw them on a tour package some friends were opening for and left in the middle of their set. Half of them are in their 30s and have "MDK" tattooed all over them. Musical garbage.
