Been waiting for this cd. It seems like Fearless Records is really taking a step toward being a kickass label. Bigwig's newest album is absolutely amazing, so I couldn't wait to see what their next offering in way of a band I hadn't really heard before was going to be. Lonely Kings are a three piece band from Santa Cruz, California. The first song on this starts off with a slow acoustic guitar then kicks into some melodic punk. I guess thats more or less what this is supposed to be, but it has a more rock sound to it and its almost catchy enough that it could pop up on the radio. Their second song intro reminds me a bit of a Millencolin intro or a riff they would play, the song then evolves into an upbeat yet slower tempo song. Let me skip to probably my favorite song on this cd. 'Never' starts out slow, and you thing its going to be some sappy song, but then they pick it up for the chorus with some yelling from Jesse. 'What You Want' is one of my more favorite songs a definately metal driven riff with some angry lyrics. The end of this song is what made me enjoy it the singer just yelling 'Freedom!!! Yeah, Fuck Yeah' over a heavy fast riff made me like it. The rest of the album is very pop-punk. These guys definately will be making a little comotion once their music passes the right ears. If you like more poppunk/rock that could be reminiscent of bands like Welt is the best example I can think of. Its cool as hell though, I'm grooving to it. The last song on this rocks, reminds me of Rage Against the Machine with the whole whispering to over a pretty intense guitar, with lots of emotion and playing with different guitar sounds.
Bottom Line: Pretty cool, sounds very produced, rock with punk, some songs are more catchy, but the other that arnt are awesome. Altogether it sounds very good. If you like other fearless records bands with a more produced sound, kind of like the new No Use for a Name sound I'd say.
