Limp Bizkit has been on top of the music industry and has toured the world. That was 5 years ago. After two albums, a new guitarist, and a whole lot of expectations, they’ve returned with their original lineup. With Wes back in the fold, some hoped the group would recognize the errors they’ve made and move ahead. Unfortunately, they’ve missed their chance once again.
The Unquestionable Truth: Part 1 is, for the most part, a step in the right direction. I imagine the trends of this record are a direct result of Wes’ contributions on guitar. Lyrically, Mr. Durst comes off as unimaginative and even contradictory. On The Truth we find him quoting the Lord’s Prayer, yet in The Priest he’s bashing the same church he referenced earlier. If you make it past that or a number of the other atrocities without hitting skip, there’s still the overall uninspired feeling of this record to deal with. The picture is much the same for the drum, bass, and whatever DJ Lethal does on Limp Bizkit records.
You’d think with their old lineup back together Limp Bizkit would maybe take the chance to sit down and really put together some quality material. Instead, they’ve rushed together a few songs, put a “the" on the front of their titles, and called it done. There are bands that can do this and get away with it because they’ve been around so long that their fan base is huge and enough people will buy it no matter what it sound like (think Metallica’s St. Anger). But Limp Bizkit has been running in the wrong direction for too long. Unless they can make some vast improvements, I foresee a swift conclusion to their career.
