Those old enough to remember Duran Duran posters adorning their walls and thinking ankle warmers were cool, can be forgiven when turning on the radio today and feeling a vague sense of deja-vu. The eighties are back in a big way with The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, and just about every other major act adding a glam sparkle or a synth ripple to their sound. Waiting for the dry ice to clear are Kill Hannah as they release their sophomore effort Until There's Nothing Left Of Us, an album that could quite feasibly offer up the question "why should we care?" in the current musical climate.

As opening track proper "Believer" begins, the keyboard driven intro doesn't immediatly offer any evidence that this album is going to be at all a standout. The track that follows is far from poor, yet lacks anything that could truely define the band. However, as the following track builds up, the band begin to showcase a sound that they perfect throughout the record.

"Lips Like Morphine" is probably the major selling point of this album. Not being the best track, it works as a perfect introduction to the band. Employing a sound steeped in new wave pop, the band flitter through electronica and goth delivering it all in a contemporary manner. There is something of an Anthony Green quality to the vocals in their fragile, almost naive sounding, delivery.

The album moves through various paces, from the sexed-up discotheque grooves of "Crazy Angel" through the excellent cover of The Chruch's "Under The Milky Way Tonight", with it's beautifully layered vocals and shimmering keyboard parts. Whilst there are certainly some moments where the album veers towards mediocrity, these are outweighed by some genuine instances of great songwriting.

Until There's Nothing Left Of Us is a thoroughly solid album that frequently glistens with pop gold and could see Kill Hannah sidestepping the eighties revival and forging a career all of their own.

How does it stack up to For Never and Ever? I rather liked that album. It gave me a bit of a Smashing Pumpkins vibe, though I'm not quite sure why.

As someone who has followed Kill Hannah for years before Forever and Never hit the stores... I have to say I've always been a little disapointed in their album releases. The numerous EPs and Demos that lead up to Forever and Never totally knocked me on my ass and I fell in love with songs like "Welcome to Chicago"....which never made the album because of the frequency of "f-bombs"... with that in mind, I have always felt like Kill Hannah has been denying themselves to rock out and be heavy in addition to everything I do.

I am awaiting a flame war. Bring it.

I had never heard of these guys till they opened for MSI the last time I saw them. When they walked out looking like another Cure/AFI wannabe band I wasn't hoping for much, but I gotta say, they pretty damn good. Could have been them, could have been the Jager coursing through my veins, I don't know, I'm not a doctor, but definitely sold me on checking out the album.
