With 2004's Forcing Out the Silence, Junius established themselves as a heavily new wave influenced quartet and left little if no question that future releases would only continue to impress. Blood is Bright marks the band's return and showcases their modern take on new wave, with spacey guitars, looming vocals and enough originality to set them at the top of the game.

This five song EP opens with "The Annunciation", a brief introduction that plays right into the albums first full song and the title track, "Blood is Bright". The track is a gentle introduction to the band's sound and bares songwriting qualities reminiscent of The Cure. Where the instrumentation on this album is very modern, the vocals bare a classic 80's style, both coming together with dreamlike qualities. "A Word Could Kill Her" starts off in the same mood, but proves to be a much more aggressive track, not only differentiating itself from much of the album's content, but also from many of the band's heavier influences. "In the Hearts of Titans" is a spacey, near instrumental six minute epic which not only helps in setting the band apart from their predecessors, but also brings the album's originality to exciting heights. The moodier, "At the Ages of Decay" closes out the album and sees the band coming together on a much more space-rock influenced song. The vocals are much more soothing than previously found on this record, and the instrumentation follows the style set from its very beginning, giving the album range, while also baring an incredible amount of unity.

With Blood is Bright, Junius have only ensured their rank as one of today's best new wave outfits. The band has created strikingly original material while avoiding many of the trends of the current music scene, in turn bringing forth work that would make their influences proud.

I'm confused. Is this the same Junius that I like? Maybe my definition of new wave is off, but these guys don't remind me of Devo at all.

Ok, I can maybe feel a little Devo in the vocals and on the song "A Word Could Kill Her". Guess I never made the connection until I saw your RIYL.

Regardless, this is a pretty killer EP.

Wonderful. This band needs to be on a big indie and make an Epic full length.

You play to win the game.
