If you know the history of It Dies Today, you’ll know the band has changed drastically from Forever Scorned, which was released back in 2002. The band was a lot heavier and you could easily say, less melodic. When Catiff Choir was released in 2004 by Trustkill, the band still kept their music filled with heavy breakdowns and double bass, but went for a melodic approach. With the growing popularity of metalcore, the band hit at the right time and gained much needed momentum. Now in 2006, where the genre of metalcore is going for even a “more” melodic approach, the guys did the same with Sirens.

You could definitely say It Dies Today wanted to go for more of an accessible sound to bring in even a larger fanbase. This is readily apparent with the first four tracks of the album. If you know It Does Today, you know what all their songs entail. If Emeril were to make an It Dies Today song it would include the following:

2 Tbsp Guitar Riffs
3 cups Double Bass
1 Tbsp Breakdown
and add a pinch of screaming/singing

Honestly, that about sums it up, but to pigeonhole It Dies Today to this recipe would be wrong because that’s the recipe for most metalcore songs.

In all seriousness though, Sirens is a metalcore listener's wet dream. People who love all the ingredients above will fall in love with songs like “Sacred Heart (Sacre Coeur)” (especially the ending of the song, it is brutal) and “A Constant Reminder”. The song that really stands out the most on the album has to be “Through Leaves, Over Bridges”. If the album had more songs like this, Sirens would be a completely different story.

The biggest complaint, really, on this album is the production. Yeah, yeah, yeah, GGGarth Richardson (Rage Against the Machine, Atreyu), is one of the most sought after producers, but this album lacks in “rawness”. A lot of the songs are overproduced and the vocals, especially the singing, sounds so out of place. Also, if you get the chance to hear the demos from this new album, you’ll notice how much the instruments were fooled with to sound just right. Actually, the band should release the demos on CD because it blows everything out of the water on Sirens.

So at the end of the day, what does this album entail for It Dies Today? Let’s just say this is a bump in the road and hopefully on the next album the guys recover. Keep it heavy!

Man, I wouldn't have even imagined giving this disc higher than a 1. It's total sell-out, scene-pandering, cash-in crap. Honestly, I can't imagine a worse metalcore cd to come out this year.

I was really really let down with this disc. Immediately, I had written IDT off and I thought I'd never hear from them again. After getting over that initial shock that their perfect sound had been glossed up and ruined, I actually listened to the record as just that. I can say now that Sirens isn't as bad as I originally thought it to be and there is a fair amount of good ideas on this disc, I just think they're poorly put together.

I beg every member of It Dies Today to go back and listen to Forever Scorned before they step into a recording studio again. Those new fans who saw your video on MTV2 aren't going to be around when you write the next one, but if you show that this record was a momentary step in the wrong direction, I think the diehard fans will be able to overlook it.

IMO...i liked this CD alot....When i first heard the demos, it sounded alright...But when i received the CD the other day, i sat down and listened to the CD front to back....And all i have to say is, even thru dry production and sometimes same structured songs, i really digged this album....I like it more than i did "caitiff choir".....Yea its been getting alot of shit and alot of people are wishing for this bands demise, and some of their fans that they grabbed with the last CD are going to jump to the next band, personally i have always supported this band since Forever Scorned.....I think its a step up from wat they were and i think its a mature record...people are going to disagree with me, and thats cool...ur entitled to ur opinion...But instead of writing a rehash of Forever Scorned, they decided they wanted to be more melodic and more chorus driven...kudos to them....They delivered a CD they have always wanted to make...if u didnt think they were going in this direction after listening to "caitiff choir" and the enjoy the silence song, then u were missing something...But all in all, i enjoyed this CD very much and i would give a 3 1/2 or close to a 4

DJ, I would've liked this record a lot more if the demos were released instead. I have 8 songs from this album in demo form, then 4 unmastered tracks, and the process they took was the wrong way imo. The singing on the demos was 10x better and the songs were heavier.

I don't understand how people can like all this nu-metalcore. It's the metal equivalent of highlights for children.

I loved The Caitiff Choir, and I love this as well. Forever Scorned was more cliché than this.

I actually like the really "overproduced" sound on these kind of albums. GGGarth did an amazing job recording Failure On by Beloved IMO.

I'm having mixed feelings with this album, part of me likes it, but another part of me feels they played it way too safe with this one. I think I like Sirens just a litte more than Forever Scorned though which I felt was a bit boring, but this doesn't top Caitiff Choir at all, which mixed heaviness and melody really well.

ChrisC, you gotta help me out where did you get those demo's? I'm not a master of the internet or P2P, I only use Limewire and I can't find anything related to It Dies Today and demos.
