Invade is a DIY hardcore band. Not in the way that most bands think they are DIY because they are on an independent record label and book their own shows. They are DIY because they handle everything themselves. This is quite an impressive feat especially in today’s music scene. It’s amazing how quickly they’ve built themselves a solid and sizable fanbase through myspace as well as an excellent word-of-mouth buzz. But it’s not all talk. They possess tight hardcore songwriting skills that are as relentless as their work ethic.

The band puts plenty of passion into their take on metallic hardcore. Integrating the best features of their influences, they are able to write strong songs that grab your attention and won’t let go until you're beaten and bruised. They also possess one of my favorite qualities in a hardcore band: they have something to say. Whether it is politics, religion, or social issues, they are not reluctant to have their voice heard. Their message is made more poignant because of the raw intensity of the production and structure of the songs.

One of the problems with metallic hardcore in general is that it is hard for a band to set themselves apart from their peers. Invade is definitely not an exception to this problem. They do, however, avoid a huge pitfall by not relying on boring chugging riffs the entire time and the addition of punk elements also helps bring a welcome change in pace. “Christicillin” actually utilizes acoustic guitars for the intro to break things up before erupting into another assault. It’s a short 8 songs but they seem to work well with each other.

The band is giving CDs away for free, so you have no excuse not to check this out. Do yourself a favor, go to their myspace page, and give it a listen. Undoubtedly, any fan of metallic hardcore will find this an exceptional debut. They are a band who definitely deserves the advantage of good supervision from a reputable indie label.

I was totally blown away by this disc. One of the best self produced discs I've heard in ages. Go send these guys a couple of dollars and get a copy of their debut or of their recently released split. Good stuff.
