Can I see a show of hands class? How many of you know who Bam Margera is? Yes, that’s good, all of you I see. Now can anyone tell me the proper name for that heart shaped pentagram he so flagrantly flashes everywhere?

It’s a heartagram for crying out loud, and it’s not just some cool looking decoration that adds to Bam’s tuxedo coat and top hat ensemble. It’s a logo that goes hand in hand with the band, HIM.

It goes without saying that HIM has definitely garnered quite a bit of attention since Bam has directed one of their videos, and used their songs as a soundtrack for the infamous CKY videos, but after one listen to “Razorblade Romance,” one can conclude that it probably wouldn’t take long for HIM to get noticed in the States.

“Razorblade Romance” is the stateside debut from the Finnish group, and it packs a hefty, catchy, hook-laden punch. The five piece incorporates keyboards into the typical guitar/bass/drum/vocal line-up and the resulting music is romantic rock n’ roll.

“Your Sweet 666” kicks the disc off with a driving rock pace, all the while leaving you wondering about the lyrics “I’m waiting for your call/and I’m ready to take your 666 in my heart.” Ville Valo’s lyrics deliver meanings of love, heartbreak, and apathy presented with voice that would make little boys and girls melt in their seats. His crooning lows that seamlessly flow into soothing highs has often left me wondering if he made a deal with devil for his vocal abilities.

“Right Here In My Arms,” “Razorblade Kiss,” and “I Love You” round out the rock line-up on the disc and are place throughout the disc to break-up some of the slower songs that can tend to bleed together.

By all means, this is a great album, but 14 songs of despair and romance can get to be a bit much, regardless it’s been in my CD player for the past 2 months straight.

So if you happen to be out and about and looking for something new, yet somewhat familiar, pick up the hot pink disc, put it in your CD player and think about all your ex-girlfriends.
