I have to say it was odd to find this sitting here waiting for a review. Having no prior knowledge of the band, or Greg Macpherson I popped the cd into the player to experience some folk-rock, indie type music. Greg Macpherson has some strong roots as a musician. Being compared to the great Bruce Springsteen. He built his career starting with nothing, and excelling into something special. His words deliver a kind of ease and kindness into a dark and emotional world. Each song is laced with some straight ahead, yet mellow guitar riffs.
Overall the album is filled with folk punk. Along the linesof such past releases of The Weakerthans and other folk type bands such as the Filthy Thieving Bastards except Greg's voice helps this album deliver a type of flavor that fans of this type of music would die for. The band puts you into a sort of mood that could be described as simple, and very laid-back. Greg sings through songs of thought and story to develope a world of his own that he wants you to accompany him for a ride to. The passion behind his music definately shows throughout this album. I think he should be very proud of what he has been able to accomplish and to be the first release on G7 Welcoming Committee. Not all songs follow the folk-punk/rock genre, they mix it up with intreaguing guitar lines mixed with lyrics that will make you think. Very solid album all the way around.
Bottom Line: The comparisons to Springsteen are very accurate, a true seasoned veteran of the music scene Greg Macpherson and his band deliver with a solid piece of indie/folk-punk music. Not something I will probably ever listen to again, but good for the kind of music they create.
