Music For Men is an album you want to love. You really do. But still, there is a little red devil in you that appears on your shoulder to say, “Listen to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs or any other female-fronted punkwave band instead.” And most often, it is the devil who wins, despite a valiant effort from the angelic telling you to go listen to Gossip.
A perfect example of why there is such an internal dilemma over Gossip is the single “Heavy Cross”. Sure, it is a catchy song for the first few times you hear it, and there are enough layers to keep fans of TV on the Radio warm, but then you notice it… that “oooh oooh ooh ooh OHOOHHH”… and that little chant that vocalist Beth Ditto throws in several times throughout the four-minute run time... it just starts to bug you. And such is the same with many of the other tracks on Music For Men. Despite some of these annoyances, songs like “Vertical Rhythm” and the electro-fying “Pop Goes The World” are solid dancepunk numbers that will undoubtedly make the sweat pour down your face at a live show.
Music For Men is ultimately an album that falls victim to the little things – a chant here, a riff there, all of “Men In Love”, etc. But it is not an album to be despised. If anything, you want to love it as much as it wants you to, and for that alone it is worth at least a single listen. Who knows, maybe the angel will end up winning one of these arguments.

This band is horrible. The only way to listen to this band is when you're wearing these:

I sort of like this band.
I like the fact that Jordan Blilie has a fraternal twin sister who is in Gossip.
