After having put out an EP, There's No Sympathy For The Dead, earlier this year, Escape the Fate return with their full length, Dying is Your Latest Fashion. The aforementioned EP was composed of five promising songs that sounded somewhat like a cross between Atreyu and From First to Last. This album, however, is hit or miss, often leaning toward the latter.

Dying is Your Latest Fashion comes off sounding like the most cliche thing you can imagine when someone says the word screamo. Hell, the band got together through the social networking website, MySpace. After being together a little more than a month, the band won an opening slot on the then current My Chemical Romance tour, and shortly after they were signed by Epitaph Records. They are the posterboys of what MySpace members know as "emo" and are the epitome of fashioncore.

Whereas their EP was dynamic and energetic, Dying comes off sounding uninspired and lacking any cohesion. Its best tracks, sadly, were the same songs found on their EP. Namely, "The Guillotine" and "There's No Sympathy For the Dead." If the band had only stayed on the same path, they might have managed to write something worth listening to multiple times. Instead Dying is about as generic an album anyone could write in this genre.

To make matters worse, vocalist Ronnie Radke, was recently ousted from the band for "personal reasons." According to the rumors, the guy ended up in jail and was forced to go to rehab. The band put out a press release stating they'd like to see Radke rejoin the band when he gets himself back on his feet; that is if the band is still around when that time rolls around. Without consulting any music professionals, it's safe to say that the situation doesn't bode well for a band that has only just released their debut. It's quite ironic that Dying is Your Latest Fashion is being released on Epitaph, as the band may have written their own before their career even got off the ground.

Their EP really grabbed me and I liked it quite a bit, but just about every strength showcased was watered down on the full length. Disappointing. I wouldn't be at all surprised if these guys disband before the end of the year.

Wow, this is sad news, I was really looking forward to their full length, the EP was extremely promising. This is like Senses Fail all over again =x.

this album is horrible... well maybe thats too harsh. i really like "situations" and (more or less) "cellar door". the rest of the album is... nothing that anyone will remember.

I think the best song on the disc is "The Webs We Weave".

I thought the same thing haha

"Use short sentences. Use short first paragraphs. Use vigorous English. Be positive, not negative."

I thought so too. Just the right mix between agression and melody.

That's a great last line. Writing kudos to you.

Thanks! I thought about saying something about their press release sounding like an intervention letter too, but I figured I'd already taken enough stabs at them.
