A full-length album. Seven tracks long. Gee, what band could have masterminded such a devious plan?

Dream Theater.

Always taking what’s popular and mixing it with what they know, ‘80s metal, Dream Theater makes a mockery of bands that write metal songs for fame and glory. And Train of Thought is no different. Metallica’s St. Anger was a massive bust, as anyone can tell. I guess the men of Dream Theater decided that since Metallica couldn’t deliver Metallica, they would. And that’s what Train of Thought may very well be: the album Metallica wishes they could still make.

Godly guitar solos and a, for once, almost entirely bearable vocal performance makes this album a step up from their previous effort, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence.

It’s hard rock/prog the way it was meant to be and it’s here for the taking. Sure, it’s no Scenes from a Memory, but it’s still better than a large percentage of the music available these days. Par for the course for Dream Theater, eagle for any other hard rock band in the business.

This is still probably one of my favorite Dream Theater albums. They rocked out pretty hard on this one. "As I Am" is such a great metal track.

I don't really listen to Metallica (though I have been at the barrier for their infinitely long set) but even I could hear Blackened in This Dying Soul; great song though. Yeah, As I Am is awesome, but Stream of Consciousness followed by In The Name Of God is the highlight of the album for me.

A short review but I guess it hits some of the key points that people will hear when playing this album :).
