Though a band’s music shouldn’t be judged solely on the band's name, much like a book by its cover, there are certain band names you can’t help but be attracted to. On the other side of the spectrum, there are bands that completely turn you off with their rather lame and atrociously banal titles. Though Does It Offend You, Yeah? fall into the latter category, the band got their awful name from the hilarious UK original The Office as Ricky Gervais muttered that very sentence to another co-worker. Taken out of context, the sentence now forming the band's name sounds relatively awkward and obtuse. Despite this, DIOYY are one of the many European bands that are “following” in the footsteps of Daft Punk or fellow countrymen Bloc Party to resurrect the dance/electro ridden punk scene of the prominent Chemical Brothers years.
You Have No Idea What You’re Getting Yourself Into, the band's debut, is essentially the official soundtrack to the life of any skinny jeans/v-neck wearing hipster doing lines of cocaine, popping ecstasy or shooting heroin in the bathroom of any poorly lit and ventilated basement apartment across New York City. Electro fused everything seems to be the backbone of DIOYY as blisteringly fast electronic beeps and boops hit your ears at a breakneck pace from every direction on the opening three tracks and majority of the record. These songs are all heavily influenced by bands like Death From Above 1979, Daft Punk, and Justice (the French duo, not to be confused with the Belgian hardcore band, RIP). Taking a break from the foreseeable club anthems all focused on having pretty girls rub themselves on your now ruined skinny jeans, Bloc Party and the Klaxons randomly begin to play composing some of the “softer” dance/punk songs, as well as a 1960’s influenced dance song that could be used in any infamous chase scene.
Rather than describing the band as completely void of any originality whatsoever like reviews from prominent music zines have subtly claimed, think of You Have No Idea… more so as an homage to the bands listed in the RIYL section (and the Chemical Brothers). The biggest problem critics, myself included, have with the band's debut is that it is crystal clear that DIOYY have blatantly taken bits and pieces from the aforementioned bands, but rather than form something relatively new from these influences, the band just rips on their sound in various songs.
A breakdown of what songs sound like which bands is as follows:
DFA1979/Crystal Castles
“Let’s Make Out”
“With A Heavy Heart (I Regret To Inform You)”
Bloc Party
“Epic Last Song”
“Dawn of the Dead”
“Doomed Now” (with the use of a vocoder)
Daft Punk/Justice/Chemical Brothers
“Battle Royale”
“We Are Rockstars”
“Weird Science”
Klaxons
“Attack of the 60’ Lesbian Octopus”
On a slightly exaggerated side note, never before has the use of a cowbell been so prominently used on any single piece of recording since the inception of time. To paraphrase Christopher Walken, Does It Offend You, Yeah? have gotten themselves a fever with the only prescription unfortunately being more cowbell.

breaking down the album into a song-by-band-comparison list is probably the most obnoxious thing i've ever seen on Decoy.

Disregarding a band for their name is absurd.

I'm sure they don't mind dudes who say things like 'big dirty chest piece' but they might be offended when they get referred to as 'bitches'
