The metal community should be well aware at this point that metal does not need to be recycled in order to be metal. New albums from bands like Pig Destroyer have shown that metal can still be unique and bring something very fresh and exciting to the genre. Therefore, Darkest Hour really has no excuse for this unbelievably derivative and downright pathetic attempt. This album, although technically tight from start to finish instrumentally, displays a band that has become complacent in pleasing its core fans that demand little more than double bass and some standard shredding. Never once during Deliver Us do Darkest Hour give the music community something to talk about and it will be in an out of any CD player that expects something new from a band considered to be one of the premier bands in the metal genre.
The album is equipped with one unoriginal metal solo after another that could be found on any given, equally lacking, Avenged Sevenfold record. This is not to say that these boys aren’t talented musicians in terms of the skill it takes to play the riffs and beats they are playing. The album is riff after riff that would wear on anyone but a guitar expert’s fingers and patience. The fact that Darkest Hour are such talented musicians makes it all the more frustrating that they don’t try to be innovative in the least with such talent at their disposal. They choose to imitate their metal heroes long past with unbelievably fast riffs like those on the song "An Ethereal Drain". Alas, they are riffs that could have been heard on the last Shadows Fall or In Flames album.
Lyrically, this album works in the realm of mind-numbing Linkin Park-esque generalities. “So fall forward into me, and let it all pour out, you owe this to yourself, and there’s only way out.” These cringe worthy lyrics lack any real meaning aside from a haphazard attempt to apply to as wide an audience as possible. Vocally, the album is nothing new and hardly worthy of any note. It’s standard Darkest Hour and standard among the other droves of typical metal bands.
Darkest Hour do not deserve hatred and the truth remains that their gift instrumentally alone gives one reason to listen to future records in the hopes that they would try something new with their immense talent. Each and every record just seems to be more derivative than the last, while still showcasing a band with a load of talent that can’t find a voice of its own. Victory Records seems to continue feeding the music community derivative albums and Darkest Hour’s Deliver Us is no exception.

Darkest Hour slays the rest of the metalcore realm. Sure, they aren't playing in the same genre as Cephalic Carnage, but who would expect them to? They've always been a metalcore band.

Yeah, I'm kind of more saying DH has not created anything interesting in their subgenre on this record where Pig Destroyer has created something totally new within whatever genre or subgenre you want to put them in.
Exactly, it just didn't grab me in any way.

Haha. I'm right there with you, man. I thought this was their best effort and their other albums were crap. But I will probably get sick of this one fast too so I'm not too upset with the score.

You can't compare A7X with Darkest Hour. Yeah the new Darkest Hour follows a little of their older material and kind of drags but at least it isn't some cheap cunt "screamo",bullshit cheap tuned down HIM or Atreyu cd.
The Cityscape Burns Brighter By The Hour.
I think I can and the amount of agreement I've received kind of bolsters my opinion. Compare the cheesey solos of A7X with Darkest Hour, you'll find them very similar in style and sound. I think you've set very low standards for what "cheap" is. I don't like HIM and Atreyu either. I think there's a ton of crappy music out there and that's why there isn't a ton of 5 star reviews on here. It's my opinion and I think it's a fair one backed up by my, in my opinion, solid music understanding. Deal with it. If you disagree, that's fine but your way is a dumb way to go about it.

Your cheap ass comment in comparing A7X with Darkness Hour to me means you haven't the ability to properly listen and shouldn't be allowed to write reviews. It makes me question this website in general.
It's just opinion but not a very good judgement.
Someone just gave that sleepy ass new As Cities Burn cd a slew of good credit and you pissed all over Darkest Hour...Good call Mr.Hot Topic.
The Cityscape Burns Brighter By The Hour.
Kind of excited for this response: Darkest Hour is IN HOT TOPIC! You're not part of some rebel underground counterculture music scene that loves Darkest Hour. They're mainstream i.e. every fucking commercial break of Headbangers Ball (Yes, I'm the only one that still watches that show).
Also, I didn't review As Cities Burn. Feel free to click on read more reviews by Michael Smer and then find a record I actually like to rip on me for.
We don't all huddle up in a private Decoy chatroom (while soliciting underage girls just to be exposed later by MSNBC's Chris Hanson when we bring Mike's Hard Lemonade and condoms to what we think is a 12 year old girl's house) and decide on the score for an album. Some of the staff loves Darkest Hour's new album. I on the other hand don't. Also, I really can't argue with you on the point that it doesn't sound like A7X because the comparison, WITHIN THE SOLOS, has been made by countless other people and reviewers.

P.S. Oh wait, Darkness Hour? Never heard of them, I'll have to check em out.

ripping on someone (using 14 year old-esque sarcasm at that) for a simple typo just ruined every point you had in that post; congratulations

Do you actually go on hot topics website and look at the cds they sell?
hahaha good job Mr. Gerard.
Oh I don't really like Darkest Hour that much, I don't care if they're "mainstream" and I don't think the new cd is that good either, I just think you comparing them to A7X is weak on a reviewers part.
Also,
This whole 12 year girls house thing, where do I sign up?

Its just silly that reviewers don't review on whether something is good or bad or not based on standards I guess you could call it, but pretty much strictly if they like it or not, and it shouldnt be that way... it should be more of a mix of both, but it isnt. Fall Out Boy can get 5 stars, and then in another review Darkest Hour gets a Limp Bizkit score and gets compared to a shitty band for making a great metalcore album.

with all those idiots quitting it never registered on my leaderboard the 3000 or so kills I guess

Yeah the first patch fixed all of that. I got it right at 9200 kills. I hear with all of the new patch's there are kids who have over 10,200 kills and they haven't gotten it.
