Over the past few years, Norway’s Clown has been making songs much in the vein of the superpopular metal band Slipknot. The one thing that always seemed to be holding them back was that they extended their songs to lengths far longer than necessary to get their point across.

But with Bloom’s Decay, the band has finally gotten rid of the unnecessary extensions in their music and given the music itself a bit of a makeover, bringing in a few punk-like beats to drive the music ever further. Groundbreaking, it isn’t. But a solid take on what’s popular in the semi-underground in America is something that should be commended. And they do it quite nicely and with fewer members.

Bloom’s Decay even sees Clown starting to take on a shape much more its own and it will be interesting to see where they go from here. The growth they’ve shown from one EP to the next has always been staggering and I will be waiting with bells on when the next installment arrives.
