Fart and Wiener and Jokes is a gross misnomer for Brian Posehn’s latest release. Why, there are also lots of gay jokes. And weed jokes. And semen jokes! If you have the sense of humor of a twenty-something with the sense of humor of an immature teenager, this album will be right up your alley.

To be entirely frank, most of Posehn’s set is hit-or-miss. Don’t get me wrong, it’s entertaining and you’ll get a few a chuckles from a handful of jokes, but there was never a point when I laughed out loud. His “made of farts” gag is pretty great, and the long-running joke of yelling “Slayer” to make a very gay situation totally straight is reused just enough times to remain funny and not trite. Just picture him behind a dumpster in a dank, dark alleyway, bent over by Dennis Rodman, quietly murmuring, “Slayerrr…” as he’s being raped in the cornhole.

Actually, this is precisely the problem with Fart and Wiener Jokes: it is just a CD, not a DVD. So much of his humor is self-deprecating and totally dependent upon you knowing that he is a 6’6’’ bearded giant that reeks of fat hipster awkwardness. A casual listener unfamiliar with Posehn wouldn’t get half of his jokes at all, and anyone else listening to the CD is stuck relying upon their imagination, enfeebled by years of television and YouTube watching, to conjure up the particular images Posehn paints. If this release was a DVD, it would easily be much better.

The final two tracks, “More Metal Than You” and “The Gambler,” are throwaway comedy songs. Despite having an all-star backing backing band of John Tempesta of White Zombie, Scott Ian of Anthrax, and Joey Vera of Armored Saint, the tracks gurgle with cliché metal rehash and uninspired, unfunny lyrics. To top it off, Posehn is a vocalist on par with Thomas Erak of The Fall of Troy in his more recent efforts.

When Brian Posehn begins Fart and Wiener Jokes with the line, “Take off your thinking caps. I’m about to make it fuckin’ stupid in here,” he isn’t lying. Posehn is no Lewis Black, and hardly a Dennis Miller, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. In his own misshapen gargantuan way, Posehn’s a pretty funny guy, but his new album just falls flat far too often. If you’re new to Posehn and want a very funny album, go buy his first album, Live in: Nerd Rage.

I was watching some old Posehn comedy central stand up sets and he just isn't that good on his own doing stand up. He's funny doing sketch comedy in a group or playing a supporting character role, but on his own he just doesn't quite cut it.

Find me EVERYWHERE:

I saw some EARLY clips of his on Comedy Central's website the other day, like, at least mid-90s. He had a ponytail and was clean-shaven-- looked horrid. Anyway. He busted out a joke that's actually on this CD. Terrible delivery. Nobody laughed.

At least he's gotten slightly better? haha

Thoroughly enjoyed this review. There were a few downright obscene comments, and I particularly enjoyed the line "anyone else listening to the CD is stuck relying upon their
imagination, enfeebled by years of television and YouTube watching, to
conjure up the particular images Posehn paints."

Too old to bother, too young to give a shit.
