Hailing from Boston, Mass. Beyond the Sixth Seal are at the forefront of America’s Melodic Death Metal scene and deservedly so. They have ridded themselves of their hardcore influences all together and the difference is extremely noticable and a welcome to
the ears. It is extremely refreshing to hear them meld their melodicism with
Swedish-oriented Metal to create an absolute epic journey. They explore the soul through love, sex, earth, and mind and I was left spellbound at times. Reminiscent of older Opeth and Katatonia and at times comparable to Meshuggah. Any Death Metal fan should view this as a gem and probably one of the 10 best metal albums of the year. The stand out tracks in my opinion are “Fallen” and “The Birthing Apparatus”, but the entire album fits
together so seamlessly that is hard to pick which moments are the most outstanding.
Overall it was a most pleasurable experience, one that I will probably relive on a regular basis, but next time I hope they will slow down and let me catch my breath with a peaceful second or two.
