Bayside is a well known name in the current music scene, being around for 10 years and releasing four full-length records. The band gained most of their popularity with their self-titled record and The Walking Wounded, both released via Victory Records. Their last album, Shudder, was split down the middle by listeners, some claiming it to be their favorite Bayside record, others claiming it to be so-so or disappointing. The band's departure from Victory Records gave both a gleam of hope that the band would release some solid new music and fear that Bayside would fade into the endless sea of “modern rock.”

Killing Time is exactly the record that you would expect Bayside to release with new label Wind-Up Records, and it proves that these guys still have the energy that they built their following upon. The album's first two singles, “Already Gone” and “Sick, Sick, Sick,” gave listeners exactly what they wanted from a refreshed Bayside: amazing energy, great songwriting, and some catchy lyrics. Both songs provide a great opening to the record as a reintroduction to the band's style of music. “Mona Lisa” displays the better songwriting abilities of the band, showcasing a slower tempo than the first song as well as several key changes throughout the song.

Tracks like “It's Not A Bad Little War” show off Bayside's pop punk side of their music with quick moving power chords, a catchy chorus, and clever lyrics. The song also uses hand clapping over a verse and nice bridge with a guitar solo to show that they have a knack for details in their songs, providing listeners with something new to notice every time they listen to the record. “Seeing Sound” and “The Wrong Way” provide a one-two punch to your ears, both hard hitting tracks that remind past listeners of their self-titled days. At the opposite end of the spectrum, “On Love, On Life” is a soft song that showcases the great lyrical writing of frontman Anthony Raneri as well as the band's ability to write softer sounding songs with the use of piano, violin, horns, and stacked vocal tracks.

Bayside have provided a great set of tracks that only clocks in at 36 minutes. While the length is disappointing, it's easy to relisten to this album over and over without it getting old easily. Killing Time is Bayside doing what they do best by combining where they left off with Shudder and the energy and great songwriting of their self-titled record and The Walking Wounded. If you haven't ever liked Bayside, this album probably won't be for you, but if you've been a fan of some of the music Bayside has written, give this a listen or two.

I am absolutely in love with this album. I know it's really early in the year, but it's without a doubt my favorite release so far.

It wouldn't be a far fetch to say it will be in my 2011 Top 10!

"sick, sick, sick" is the best song they've ever written. this band keeps getting stronger with every successive album.

"sick, sick, sick" is probably the song i've heard the most so far, and i'm not "sick, sick, sick" of it yet.

can't wait to hear this.

it occurs to me that Bayside is one of the very few bands who seem to have gotten more respect as their career progresses, especially in online music nerd/asshole circles. it's well deserved, in my opinion, i'm just rather surprised that they've gained fans by continually making the same album but making it better each time. that's not me complaining; i love the many versions of their one album as much as anyone.
