The latest release from Long Island, NY’s As Tall As Lions, You Can’t Take It With You, is their third full length album on Triple Crown Records. With their previous releases Lafcadio and their self-titled sophomore release, As Tall As Lions have been steadily building an every growing fan base. With this latest disc it is certainly evident as to why so many people are drawn to their music.
You Can’t Take It With You is more than just sporadic sounds thrown together. This album is one that you can play in the background, only to find, that it isn’t going to work. It is an album that demands your complete attention, and it won’t be happy until you’ve listened through completely from start to finish. Each song will make a prolific statement and will paint a lush picture out of the musical soundscape which is created.
It may seem, upon first listen, that this album might not be one that will stick with you, but before you know it you will be humming over and over the many eloquent melodies gracing the album's numerous insightful lyrics. Each listen of this album will present something different. It can come in the way of a musical idea, a lyric, or an overall feeling, but it can and will capture your ears and take you away if you let it.
Filled with the standard guitars, drums, and vocals, the instruments the building blocks that are used to put together a creation that makes such basic elements into beautiful arrangements. This release is filled with atmospheric sounds that accentuate the deft lyrical content. There are bells that happen at just the right moments and keys that can soften or build entire moments. Drawing attention to specific moments in specific songs is usually standard in many reviews but rather than walk you through each song, it would best be left for your own ears to fully experience this album.
Each song is expertly crafted and as each unfolds you are given the opportunity to be absorbed by the instrumentation while the lyrics speak to you. Let the entire disc wash over you and experience all that is You Can’t Take It With You.

LOVE this album. Definitely agree that it doesn't exactly click right away but after a few listens you just fall in love with the songs. "In Case of Rapture" is the best ATAL song, hands down for me. It's perfect.

sounds pretty good after first listen but the last few songs seem a little off in the context of the whole album. Maybe after a few more spins it will all click together.
