Don’t believe the hype. The Arctic Monkeys took over the United States sometime during the month of February in which some call “The Second British Invasion”. Their incredible yet simple sound creates infectious tunes that might turn off some, but might ignite others into a frenzy of playful Brit Rock tunes.

Comparable to their predecessors, The Strokes and Franz Ferdinand, The Artic Monkeys don’t venture too far from the derivative indie Brit-Rock sound in their debut Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not. From the opener “The View from the Afternoon” to the closer “A Certain Romance” rapid drum beats and aggressive guitars fill the tracks. Insert a neat syncopated bass line and quirky lyrics filled with British slang from a set of decent vocals and you have twelve impressively catchy songs. After a few listens these songs grew stale mainly due to their simplicity, but still maintained their novelty.

Though some may call The Arctic Monkeys overrated, a passing trend, or downright awful, I believe that even though The Arctic Monkeys don’t alter the indie rock sound or create anything musically groundbreaking, they are here to stay. There will be people who nay-say the phenomenon, and others that will continue to embrace it. This band will go places. They’ve been on SNL for God's sake.

I don't see why people are hating on this band all of a sudden. It's nothing thats going to change the face of music but this is definately an extremely solid album. I think people just don't like the fact that they got so much exposure. I've found myself listening to these songs a lot since the album came out. They are just so damn enjoyable plus its a great album to throw on at a party.

Well the band didn't create the hype, so don't blame them.

You play to win the game.

Very accurate review. The Arctic Monkeys are catchy, yes, but they get old very fast. Their tunes are simple. They deserved a three, they got a three.
