Progressing is a key in music these days. Most bands can't pull a NOFX or a Slayer and create the same album over and over and still manage to be credible. Even Blink 182 had to change it up on their self-titled album. I guess it is the “get serious” era in music. Well, Amber Pacific still wants to make happy go lucky music, but on their sophomore album Truth in Sincerity the guys haven't shown any progression in their music whatsoever. That isn't to say that they had to become virtuosos with their musical craft, but it would have been nice if they would have expanded the depth of their music even just a little.

One of Amber Pacific's biggest faults is in Matt Young’s vocals. When he sings it sounds like he is trying to over emphasize every word and it becomes very grating on the ears after awhile. You get the impression during this album that the guys overindulged in Yellowcard’s Ocean Avenue and tried to create something like it. Just take a listen to “Summer (In B)” and “Living Proof” for evidence of that. Amber Pacific still can write catchy songs, but after listening to this disc for a while it just seems like they tried way too hard. The melody in “Fall Back Into Life” is spot on, but Matt's aforementioned shoddy vocal work can’t carry the song. A catchy melody can only take you so far. Credit can be thrown in the bands direction for the song “Runaway,” which features guest vocals from Mike Herrera of MxPx, and it's safe to say that "Runaway" is definitely the best song on the album.

Amber Pacific still has time to develop as a band for their next album, but on Truth in Sincerity, there are still some kinks that need to be worked out before this band catches my ear.

The Possibility and the Promise was my guilty pleasure of 2005. I agree however that this one just didn't do it as well. Maybe their sound got tired in the last 2 years, or maybe they should've taken things in a different direction. Who knows, but this isn't it.

Their first cd was excellent. The new one sounds exactly like the first and is also excellent. Thank god a band that duplicates their sound and didn't try to "mature" into utter garbage, I've heard enough of that word.

just thought i would add that AP gave this disc a 4 1/2 out of 5 star effort, praising the band for "sticking to what made them popular in the first place."

AP also gave Vanna a good score. Boo!

Plus I never said they had to change their sound. I still believe their first album was a bore. "A catchy melody can only take you so far".
