God is War is the long awaited debut album by All Pigs Must Die, the hardcore supergroup causing a stir in the recently popularized Swedish death/hardcore/d-beat blender genre. Currently helmed by Trap Them, the style has been gaining ground and making flaky hardcore kids switch from pomps to inverted crosses at an alarming rate. Featuring members of Converge, The Hope Conspiracy, and Bloodhorse, there really isn’t any reason for the group not to succeed, hence the huge hype surrounding them.

The band wastes no time maneuvering through each niche of their music in the first three tracks. Ranging from foreboding sludge to neck-breaking d-beat, the veterans that make up the band have no problem conjoining opposing styles into a concentrated effort. “Pulverization” is a heavy track with momentum, ending with an ever-promising down-tuning bit. “Sacrosanct” merges Motorhead and Black Breath while throwing a middle finger to the wind with solos from both guitarist Adam Wentworth and bassist Matt Woods. Though a welcome introduction, the following tracks flesh out the record even better.

Once into the title track, the album takes a noticeably darker turn. Things get even slower, even heavier, and a little more doomy and gloomy than before. “The Blessed Void” combines everything so far into a punishing package, building up into a battle cry for the dead that continues to stir the pot. Kevin Baker’s monstrous vocals summon a signature brand of chaos and dread with lyrics like, “Where’s your god? He is fucking dead,” roaring over the wall of sound. As the end of the record looms, songs like “Third World Genocide” and “Extinction is Ours” make sure to power on and keep things rolling with a necessary and impressive energy. Things eventually barrel into the eight minute “Sadistic Vindicator,” a final dirge that winds down without losing an ounce of strength and ends the album on a fitting note.

All Pigs Must Die has crafted a solid piece of music that will certainly stir up critics and crowds alike. At 32 minutes long, the record is the perfect length for its genre and allows a solid pace to be kept for its entirety. With a unique take on a newly familiar style, All Pigs Must Die is sure to be the next big group at the forefront of this niche genre. As if their EP wasn’t enough justification, they make it known again with God is War. Consider the hype fulfilled.

No worries, I'm not going anywhere, love this site. I've been doing the war thing in Iraq, helping to wrap up this crapfest.

Also, on a side note, the version of this album that I have has an additional cd with these tracks on it:

201. Hungry Wolf, Easy Prey
202. Sermon for the End
203. Die Ignorant
204. Noxchi Assault
205. Death in my Wake

That's last year's EP.

And yeah, I remember you said months ago that you were shipping out. With all the news that comes back daily, it's great to know you're still around. Also, that Like Beasts EP came out since you left, and everyone on the site thought it was awesome. You should check it out if you haven't.
