Let me preface by saying that I used to be a huge A Day To Remember fan back when For Those Who Have Heart came out, and I also enjoyed And Their Name Was Treason quite a bit. I saw the band live several times and even got a chance to meet them a few times. When Homesick was released, the band blew up and so did their fan base. It got to the point that I had heard Homesick so many times that I pretty much just stopped listening to the band. When I heard that What Separates Me From You was going to come out, I wondered whether or not the band would be able to pull off a release that would top their last two albums.
What Separates Me From You is A Day To Remember's complete transition into a radio-friendly band that a wider audience can enjoy. The songs on this album have all of their edges dulled down in order to become pop rock songs with plenty of sing-a-long parts and catchy choruses. The album, which doesn't even reach 35 minutes in length, has plenty of short, packaged up songs for your local DJ to play once (or maybe a few times) every hour. The problem with this album is that it isn't what a lot of fans want it to be. Most of the songs on the album are very dull and poppy, and the band lacks on songs that push into the heavier spectrum of their music. Songs like “It's Complicated” and “All Signs Point To Lauderdale” are your basic pop punk that takes a few chord progressions from past ADTR songs to make a shitty new-ish song.
While the album may fall short on a lot of songs, there are a few that are some genuine ADTR styled cuts. Songs like “Sticks & Bricks”, “2nd Sucks”, and “You Be Tails, I'll Be Sonic” all provide some decent, albeit neutered, heavier tracks on the album. While they may be randomly placed in this short release, they are pretty good tracks that a lot of their past fans will enjoy. “All I Want” is another good song providing a nice alternative rock sound that actually seems to fit the band nicely.
Despite the handful of good tracks on this album, it is pretty disappointing overall. The songs get old fast, and you'll move on to other, better music quite quickly. Hopefully A Day To Remember can get their act together by their next release and pick a better direction in the future.

This album was way disappointing. And way too short. What happened to bands actually putting together albums longer than a half hour?
Find me EVERYWHERE:

This band is better than this album.

I've only heard this album by them, and I've gotta agree that there are maybe a handful of good tracks overall. But-- I can't fucking stop listening to them.

I agree that the album is way too short. But I'm sick of hearing that this band has changed "soooo much". They haven't. Really.
I genuinely enjoyed this the more I listened to it. To me, it is just another ADTR record...but...shorter, and more to the point.
