If you are looking for an introductory paragraph giving you some info about the band, you’re not going to get it because if you don’t know or have heard of Blink 182, you’ve been living under a rock.

As with any new band that is branched off of an ex-popular band, to get people to forget about the past is basically impossible, but the artist is able to at least do what they want. With +44’s debut album, When Your Heart Stops Beating, the guys somewhat shed away from the Blink 182 sound in some songs, but the overall feel sounds like a branch of the band’s self-titled release. That’s not a bad thing, though.

Right from the get go you are launched into pop/punk heaven with opener “Lycanthrope”. Maybe it’s just listening to Mark Hoppus playing bass over the years, but the guy sure does know how to make the bass stand out rather than just letting it play in the background. The song is upbeat and catchy and probably the best song on the album. Throughout the rest of the album you are led through different sides of the band from the melancholy “No It Isn’t” to the electro-pop “155”. One thing you might also notice are the female vocals on “Make You Smile”. The vocals are courtesy of Carol Heller who was previously in the band.

While When Your Heart Stops Beating is nowhere near epic, Travis and Tom are, and will always be, pioneers in the pop/punk genre. The guys are doing what they want and it shows in the music. It’s good to see the boys back in action.

I had the hardest time coming up with something to say. I'm a gigantic Blink 182 fan and trying to keep my mind focused on +44 as a whole and not talking bout the past and AVA was a bitch.

i thought of reviewing this and was planning to go off about how comparing this to AVA just proves who was talented in blink 182....i was also gonna talk about how hoppus' vocal melodies are really good on this disc but his lyrics are absolutely terrible "fall asleep with the windows open, what's the worst you've said and done..." WHAT? and all the reverse metaphor type things he uses are just whack.....

I agree, the lyrics aren't the greatest.

i liked Blink-182's s/t; thought it was very solid power-pop.

Blink 182 were always just barely a notch at decent. Angles and airwaves are trash, +44 are Blink 182 minus Tom DeLonge.

both AVA and (+44) sound like Blink 182 to me. I didnt like Blink !*@ then, i dont like them now. Plus it makes me mad that AVA has a member of the Distillers hostage. They all just sound the same tome me--granted i cant listen to it for too long because their vocals get on my nerves so im not giving either band a real shot. I just never understood the appeal of Blink 182.

i dont think plus 44 sounds like blink 182 at all....i dont hear a "whats my age again" or even a "stay together for the kids" in the whole bunch......

this album turned out to be so superior compared to that big piece of crap delonge said was gonna change lives. Marks voice sound really good to me.
