Boil the Frog presents a novel way of generating a playlist. Give it two artists and it'll create you a playlist that bridges the gap between the two. It's an interesting idea and even manages to connect The Beatles to Justin Bieber. Crazy!

Right now, you can get over twenty albums for a donation of $1 or more from various artists including Celldweller, Blue Stahli, Squarehead, and Savant. An even better deal is offered if you donate $5 or more, you'll get even more music. All proceeds go towards Sandy Hook School Support Fund.

Merry Djentmas

Posted at 11:13AM

Because half of our readers love djent, but mostly because the other half despite it greatly, here's a huge compilation of djent-tinged Christmas tunes.

Mike Scaccia, the guitarist for Ministry and Rigor Mortis, died on Saturday night at the age of 47. Scaccia was performing onstage at the Rail Club in Fort Worth, Texas, as part of a 50th birthday celebration for Rigor Mortis singer Bruce Corbitt, when he collapsed. Shortly afterwards, he was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Scaccia was born in Babylon, New York, on July 14th, 1965, and formed thrash metallists Rigor Mortis in 1983. Six years later, the guitarist was invited by Al Jourgensen to join Ministry. The first full-length Ministry studio recording to feature Scaccia was the group's most commercially successful release, 1992's Psalm 69: The Way to Succeed and the Way to Suck Eggs, which spawned such industrial metal classics as "N.W.O." and "Jesus Built My Hotrod," and was supported by an appearance on Lollapalooza that same year. Additionally, Scaccia appeared on recordings by a host of Ministry offshoot bands, including the Revolting Cocks, Lard, and Buck Satan And The 666 Shooters. The most recent Ministry album that Scaccia appeared on was this year's Relapse. On Corbitt's Facebook page, the singer posted the following statement shortly after Scaccia's passing: "My brother is gone! The only reason I am who I am is because of this man. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't even be in a band. RIP Mike Scaccia! The greatest guitar player I ever knew!" Ministry's official Facebook page later posted another statement:  "MICHAEL RALPH SCACCIA ...Our Dearest Friend. We love you. We miss you. God Rest Your Precious Soul. We cannot fathom this loss."

"The fourth studio full-length from Dallas, Texas-based Devourment, Conceived In Sewage was recorded at Mana Recordings in St. Petersburg, Florida with legendary death metal icon Erik Rutan (Hate Eternal, Morbid Angel). The album promises to be their heaviest, most crushing release to date combining Devourment’s signature, hate-fueled death metal with
their notorious, monstrously slamming brutality. In reference to previous releases from the band, Stereokiller has referred to the band as “a pure assault on your auditory senses,” with Teufel’s Tomb stating “Devourment have a simple goal; to put your teeth on the curb and stomp on your head.” Conceived In Sewage will be released on February 19th in North America, February 22nd in Benelux, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Finland, and February 25 in the UK and rest of the world."

"Progressive instrumentalists Scale The Summit will enter Basement Studios in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on January 2 with producer Jamie King (Between The Buried And Me, He Is Legend, For Today) to begin recording their new album, "The Migration", for a spring release via Prosthetic Records.

Scale The Summit's third album, "The Collective", sold around 1,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 39 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

The follow-up to 2009's "Carving Desert Canyons", "The Collective" was recorded at Paint It Black Studios in Orlando, Florida with producer Mark Lewis (Devildriver, All That Remains, The Black Dahlia Murder).

Scale The Summit formed in 2005 while attending the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles. The band relocated to Texas in 2006, where they recorded their first, self-released album. After signing with Prosthetic, they issued "Carving Desert Canyons", which Revolver called "a cinematic blast of intricately melodic fretwork and pummeling percussion," in 2009."

Wizened post-hardcore vets Circle Takes the Square have released their new album Decompositions: Volume Number One for full stream/purchase on their bandcamp. Check it.

LeAnn Rimes... "Singing"

Posted at 10:18AM

If you dare, check out LeAnn Rimes' effort to win best performance of 2012. She's got my vote.

The lead singer of rock band Lostprophets was refused bail today after being accused of plotting to rape a child aged under 13. Ian Watkins, a former boyfriend of Radio 1 DJ and TV presenter Fearne Cotton, was remanded in custody charged with six child sex offences. The 35-year-old was charged with conspiring to engage in sex with an underage girl. He faces three separate charges of possession, creation and distribution of indecent images of children. The singer, from Pontypridd, Wales, is also charged with possession of 'extreme pornography'. Cardiff magistrates court heard that 40 images of children and child abuse were being investigated by police. Two unnamed women, aged 20 and 24, from Doncacster and Bedford, have also been charged with 'similar offences'. Making an application for all three to be refused bail, prosecutor Mrs Suzanne Thomas said: 'They are the sort of charges which will cause public revulsion. The penalty would be a custodial sentence if they were found guilty.' Watkins was arrested on Monday as part of an ongoing investigation into child sex offences.
The rock star dated presenter Cotton for less than a year in 2005, although the pair are thought to have remained friends and were pictured together in 2008. He appeared in court today wearing a black jacket with a high collar and was watched by his mother. A forlorn-looking Watkins did not speak during the 90-minute hearing. The two women also facing prosecution - the younger woman facing four charges and the other facing six - cannot be named for legal reasons. All three were remanded in custody to appear in Cardiff Crown Court on December 31.
