Comedies are usually pretty hard to review on a consistent basis, and producer Judd Apatow doesn’t make it easier by pumping out so many high caliber comedies that dwell in the same territory of improv and profanity mixed with realistic takes on relationships and a big ole' helping of heart. Putting so many of the same actors in so many of his movies doesn’t help either, because you know that they always do good work (this time out Paul Rudd, Jonah Hill and Bill Hader are the ones to turn in relatively small but very funny roles). And, as predicted, Forgetting Sarah Marshall is no exception; easily on par with the great ones (40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Superbad) and light years ahead of the mediocre ones (Walk Hard, Drillbit Taylor), its chock full of quotable lines and memorable scenes. There are some subtle differences – the film utilizes cutaway scenes to create some its best jokes, for just one small example – but basically this is the hilarity we’ve all come to know and love. Easily one of the best films of the year thus far, Forgetting Sarah Marshall is, simply put, a satisfying time at the movies.

It's really funny, but the story is kind of lame and predictable. Some of it was a bit too over the top for this type of film (particularly Russel Brand's character), and would have been better suited for an Adamn Sandler comedy.

But it's still definitely worth seeing, but it's not near as good as Knocked Up or 40YOV.

I hated both those movies so much that i couldn't get all the way through either. Dunno, they were just too low for me, this one starts out that way, but i thought got progressively better. Its a "cute" version of those.

i dunno, too stupid, too lude (ironic considering i liked the one with lots of male nudity more, i know).

I guess that sounds stupid. Maybe i'm not saying it right.

I don't see how Sarah Marshall is any less low-brow than any of the other Apatow projects.

I was so bummed when my friends and I decided to go to the movies on a whim Sunday night. I didn't realized this wasn't going to be out until THIS weekend.

Funny movie. I definitely agree with that. However, I find that out of the Apatow movies, I still prefer Superbad, then 40YOV, then Knocked Up, then Sarah Marshall.

40 year old virgin is the worst!

by the way, for anyone who cares, i am now watching freaks and geeks, commentaries only. it is awesome. i mean, the show itself is still better, but these commentaries are pretty ace as well.
